Guest guest
Well folks...as per promise....the update on Kayla and the Doctor (Neurologist) First: intern wanted to shut the door to the exam room. Dad asked to leave it open. " We don't have any secrets about this. Besides, Bob will put it on the net tonight anyway! " <g> So with that....here goes... First Melloril seems to be helping. We have had three great school days (shortened at home...but that is another story) Kayla has been working and concentrating like I haven't seen in a LONG time...if ever. Second. The neurologist gave me the impression that the comments from others about degeneration were not accurate. After hearing her, I dropped my jaw and asked for clarification. She reinforced that. SO...it seems like the concerns about degeneration that I passed on earlier may or may not be there. If they are, the neurologist gave me the impression that the MRI didn't or wouldn't show that...at least one. She did mention that the cochlea were not developed...thus the profound deafness.I have not had a chance to confer with the school nurse who came along with, but that is my immediate impression. Kayla was great the whole time and really enjoyed the exam...especially the reflex hammer! She was laughing uproariously during the hammer time. She didn't squeeze too hard or offer resistance when asked to do so...but knowing her strength, I think she was just trying to please the Doctor! She also did great during the drawing of the blood. The further tests are brain wave and blood exams (metabolism...chemicals etc I think). BTW, I have chuckled a lot as I have seen some of the shoe issues, and the dentist issues. Kayla doesn't like her shoes on...and enjoyed them coming off during the exam! (Doesn't wear them during home time) Her obsession, NOW is pants. She lurched towards an intern at the office, and we had to let the intern know that Kayla just wanted to see her pants. She used to do shoes like that. We just tell people, " She can't see well, and she is really fascinated with pants. She won't hurt you. " and don't get embarrassed! The Doc today said Kayla ought to have her teeth worked on while under general anesthesia. Long...but today was a good day! Thanks for all your support, and as more info comes in, I'll let you know.
