Guest guest
What do the terms cure and recovery mean to the culture of autism? http://www.youtube.com/TheAutismSociety#play/all/uploads-all/0/Sxy8nztJ89E My humble opinion? Autism has become like religion and politics. It does not matter "who" says "what". The "given" is you are going to offend someone or some advocacy group/professional/agency/research facility "somewhere" at "any" given moment with "our" belief system on AS that differs and is based on our "own" life and family experience. Whew! lol It is a different journey for all of us which is why I think folks with AS have a connection like those of us who have been parents/partners and family members have a unique connection as we have all lived it day in and day out from different sides of the diamond. Autism is a multi-faceted diamond that we are still "all" struggling to understand. The fact that no 2 are alike makes our journey more challenging. Most families will tell you we don't have the time for research to catch up as we need help NOW. Groups like ASPIRES are not "fixers," all we can do is share our stories and resources hoping it will connect with another person with AS or family member and show solidarity, compassions, strength as we climb one step closer to the mountain. Just me.
