Guest guest
Hi, we were told by our neurosurgeon that yes it can definitely cause BP issues. We saw it first hand when one of our daughters was decompressed. She had a lot of trouble before and immediately after went into the normal range finally. She just saw cardiology this week and they couldn't believe the difference pre and post decompression. It also affected heart rate and palpitations. Our son who has not been decompressed has serious BP problems that have caused a heart problem, and the cardiologists and nephrologists all say they think it is coming from the brain. I too had BP problems before my surgery and they are now gone. It can be related to Dysautonomia that frequently is seen in patients with Chiari or directly from brainstem compression. Here's a good site if you suspect Dysautonomia and it actually mentions Chiari www.potsplace.com Warm Regards, > > my nurse said she couldnt find anything saying this but I am wondering if it does, thank you!!! >
Guest guest
Yes it can cause BP issues. The brain stem is the area of the brain that controls autonomic functions (thing you don't think about doing like breathing, heart beating, etc) is one of the main areas that *can* be affected by Chiari. I had bad pressure on my brain stem from my chiari and had some severely low BP issues (average 90/60 for a healthy man). It can also affect temperatures and breathing. My BP stabilized for a while after surgery. But, then again I have a ton of other problems, so take it for what it's worth... ________________________________ To: Sent: Thu, April 21, 2011 11:51:39 AM Subject: Re: can chiari affect your blood pressure?
