ASA Launches E-newsletter

Welcome to the first issue of ASA-Net, the Autism Society of America's new e-newsletter. With the launching of ASA-Net, the ASA will be retiring its Action Alerts. For years, e-mail Action Alerts kept you informed about timely legislative happenings and other events in the autism community. ASA-Net replaces ASA's e-mail Action Alerts. The new e-newsletter will contain the same timely news as Action Alert, but with much more. Our ultimate goal is to send you ASA-Net twice a month. We hope you find it useful. Please let us know what you think.

Diet, Vaccines, and Autism

The 4th Edition 2001 of the Autism Society of America (ASA) member magazine, The Advocate, is hot, hot, hot! In our special report, experts and researchers talk about vitamin and mineral supplements, and dietary intervention, as a possible way to improve symptoms of autism. Our feature story includes sensitive anecdotes from ASA member families on the sad events of September 11, and how they talked to their children about terrorism. We’ve also added a debate between two noteworthy experts on the controversial topic of vaccines vaccines and autism. Look for the 4th Edition in late January. The Advocate is available only to members of the Autism Society of America. Join today so you don't miss this issue. Click here for a

membership application (in PDF format).

Change is in the Air

The ASA Board of Directors recently voted to

restructure the ASA and to revise the organization's bylaws to ensure the ASA is able to move forward as a strong, vibrant organization. Accordingly, members of the ASA will be receiving copies of the proposed revisions to the bylaws for approval by ballot. If you would like to review the current unaltered bylaws you can find them (in PDF format) on the

ASA Web site. The proposed changes will be made available to members to vote on early in 2002.
