I tried my then 15 year old daughter on gaba it made her act drunk and silly

but not at all sleepy. Others have mentioned giving it at bedtime to help

with sleep but sure didn't with my daughter either.

Hi, Rose!

Sorry, but your Dan doctor is an idiot. Oral GABA is a waste of time as it has

no effect on GABA in the brain. Does your daughter have difficulty sleeping

normally? In other words, did this just make a bad situation worse, or was this

new (having difficulty falling asleep)? Magnesium is very calming to my

daughter, but it is hard to say what would help your daughter without knowing

more. Is she on any medications or supplements (other than the GABA)?

Hi!

Our DAN! doctor recommended Gaba for our 3 year old daughter's anxiety. It is

supposed to have a calming effect but she has been up every night since she

started on it! Not calming for mom and dad!! We've stopped giving it to her

but are curious to know if anyone else has had a similar experience or if we

should be looking for another explanation. Any other advice for anxiety??

thanks

She slept wonderfully until the onset of symptoms (2 1/2), then had trouble

until we went GFCF in Feb. Since then she has been ok with a little help from

zinc and melatonin! He recommended it for the daytime anxiety. She is on

Culturelle, Colostrum, Kirkman's Everyday, Vitamin c, zinc, melatonin, and epsom

salt cream.

Rose, we give our 16 year old non-autistic son ,who has a mild form of anxiety

called selective mutism, Anxiety Control, which helps tremendously with his

anxiety and helps him sleep. This stuff really works. He has used it for about

4 years, now. It is from the Pain and Stress Center in San . This can

be taken 2 capsules, 2 times a day for anxiety. One time I called them up and

they told me for severe anxiety, the 2 capsules could be taken up to 3 times a

day. He only takes 2 caps at night. The ingredients are magnesium, B6, gaba,

glycine, glutamine, passion flower, primula officianalis. There are no fillers.

The only problem is if you open up the capsules, it tastes very bad. It tastes

so much worse than opening up the East Park Olive Leaf d'lenolate capsules and

tasting it. It is difficult to mask the flavor, perhaps you might try putting

it in chocolate pudding. I looked for this product for my 18 year old severely

autistic son a few years ago. He does not swallow capsules. I think the effect

of this product would have been better than anything else my autistic son takes,

but I had trouble masking the flavor.

My autistic son takes gaba 750 from the Pain and Stress Center. The other

ingredient is glycine, and it is pure pharmaceutical grade. I don't really know

if it has helped him or not. He takes it periodically, as needed, when he

looks more inhibited. Maybe it does help a little. Rose

My son is on his second day of GABA (one capsule/day) and so far it's

been wonderful! He's just down right cheerful and hasn't bothered to

talk back to me. Believe me, that alone has made it worth it!

I would say he is a little more active than usual though.

For our son, Nicky, age 6, GABA has heled him become calmer and more

focused. I know that isn't the case with every child, but it seems to

help Nicky.

Yes, it works for us. is now less anxious. It has not completely solved

the issue, but I sure do know when we forget to give it!

Hi Sue,

I tried GABA during a period of time when I was painfully

anxious. I had tried several other things with no results.

(don't remember now what LOL.) Anyway, I went to the HFS

and bought the GABA, and took some in the car in the parking

lot of HFS. I felt very noticably better by the time I

got home. VERY fast. In fact, if someone else had told me

this, I would question how it could be so effective so

quickly. For a while I took it for heightened feelings of anxiety

and if I knew an upcoming event is likely to trigger anxiety

in me.

BTW, thanks for reminding me, I should be taking it every

day right now, but had forgotten all about it!

best,

Moria

Any suggestions? Anybody?

My son has used Gaba for 2 years : I use the book Prescription for

Nutritional Healing by Balch and Balch to reference item and dose.

I would buy this book it has info for autism that is right on

track. Your son dose would be 200 to 300 mg a day.( guessed he was

the same age as my son 6) my son is calm for many reasons Gaba has

helped. Ann

Hi--I don't know much about the gaba pathway but I just wanted to say

that my son would react the opposite of what were expected reactions

to magnesium, epsom salt baths, and taurine, to name a few. I worked

this out by DRASTICALLY dropping back not only the amount but the

frequency of dosing as well, and then worked up from there. Example,

for his taurine capsule, I was literally putting just a tiny sprinkle

out for him.

Maybe you could try that? Tiny sprinkle, every few days and then

work up from there.

GABA is supposed to calm.

How can I get his neurotransmitters into more of a balance.

He has been on Risperdal for a while now........it worked for a week.

Despite increases it has made him more frustrated.

>>

,

A year ago I gave my daughter GABA hoping it would help her calm down and go

to sleep. It did not! She got goofy, silly drunk on it but did not sleep.

Now after a year of intense chelation, I started it again hoping it would

help relax her and help her go to sleep. It now seems to help. I think the

difference was in the year of chelation, enough metals were removed so the

GABA could do what it was supposed to do.

Hello,

I agree with mary w. I think your son is going to be sensitive to

supplements because his metabolism is not right. This was the case

with my son also and the good news is after a few months of small

doses of supplements my son is now getting very healthy. You are on

the path to learning about what true health is and I know I sound

like a broken record when I say a great book to have in your home to

reference supplements is " Prescription for Nutritional Healing by

Balch and Balch, the section on Autism is right on and gives dose

amounts for children.

My 2 cents Ann

You know this makes sense to me.

I would then bet his GAba pathway is mercury compromised.

Hi :

I started inositol with my 10 year old son shortly after attending a seminar

given by Dr. Bradstreet and Dr. Kartzinel. They recommened it for OCD and it

does seem to help. I give a fairly low dose and it seems to take care of the

problem.

I also use GABA plus which seems to have a calming effect on my son. I get

it from Kirkman's.

Dr. Lawrence recommends one level tsp. each day, dissolved in a little water. Take it before bedtime on an empty stomach; do not take it before food. I'm already taking calcium and magnesium at night. He suggests adding GABA and MSM to relieve spasticity.

Hi

I just ordered some GABA to try. When I saw Dr. Lawrence's protocol of 1 teas per day, I want to fidn out what mg that equals. The ones I looked at had a range of different mgs. The one I purchased is 750 mg per 1/4 teas.

Do you hapopen to know how mgs that teaspoon was?

Thanks Arlene. I wasn't concerned about measuring it out, since Dr.

Lawrence suggests no more than a teaspoon daily dissolved in a little water.

I figured I buy the powder and simply pour out that much.
