Guest guest
I used sublingual tri-est and 100 mg compounded P capsules for five horrible months. I spotted all the time on 100 mg P so the pharmacist told me to double it. I did quit spotting and I bled constantly instead. At the end of five months, I got tests (bonk on my head for waiting that long). I had NO E in me and scads of P. That's when I contacted Gillespie and am doing fine (doing monthly P, though, not every 3 months). What Gillespie recommends is grounded in research. I supposed I would ask what basis your doc is using for recommending his protocol. What research supports it? I don't believe there is any, BTW. I fear that too many NDs have read Lee and take it as gospel. Lee's research has never been able to be duplicated. I fear too many will think Sommers is the "authority." If you want to use what your doc recommends, then, at a minimum, get tests. Don't go on like I did, being miserable for five months. Val -----Original Message-----From: rhythmicliving [mailto:rhythmicliving ]On Behalf Of Carol To Jessa, Laurel...Hello All,Well I got back from Dr. visit. I don't know what to think or do. He wants me to start back on Tri-est with 100 mg P caps every day. No cycles. He said my labs all looked normal. E and P low, of course. I didn't have an opportunity to discuss all the things I wanted. He did not agree with Larrian Gillespie regarding the progesterone. I'm concerned about taking the P capsules. I can't stand head to head with these Dr's because I do not know what the hell I'm talking about. Or how to really verbalize my concerns. I made a quick comment regarding Sommers and he smiled at first but then asked me why I had made the comment. I told him that it was a general consensus that the WP was not very popular and although I had not read her new book, it has caused a lot of controversy. He said he was attending a conference next week and would be having dinner with her. I told him that at first I thought she was doing women a real service but with the new book to tell her that her association with Wiley and her credibility was really being questioned. He sort of nodded and said yes, the new book, I am also not in agreement with the Wiley protocol....I told him about Larrian's view that progesterone was only needed to hold a pregnancy and to help with shedding any lining. He said, well I do not agree. So there you have it. He prescribed some supplements and light exercise and I'm to see him again in 6 weeks. Sigh .. Guest guest
Gee, Carol, I thought you did really well getting information out of your doc. It may seem to you that there were a lot more questions, but you seemed to come away with a specific plan, his philosophy, his affiliations and what hormone beliefs he does not agree with. It is interesting to see that he still sees a place for progesterone even for post meno. Also interesting to see that he does not agree with the Wiley Protocol after systematically trying it with his patients. (I remember that after the 2005 ACAM conference, he agreed to give it a try.) Guest guest
Hi... Compounded Tri-est is what I started out with, then the bi-est...to be honest I did not experience what you did. I did fine on the Tri- est, the biest is what gave me trouble. I experienced bloating, weight gain and most of all ovarian cycts and stripe much larger than it should have been. The problem is though Larrians advice may be sound, I cannot find a Dr. that will help with her protocol...I should add I have the bloating and weight gain no matter what dosages or method I use. And after the trial this month I know the gel definitely does not work for me. I can't even find a Gyno so I can keep tabs on how I am doing. I guess the only choice I have at this point is to proceed and go back in the 5 weeks he suggested and take it from there. > > I used sublingual tri-est and 100 mg compounded P capsules for five horrible > months. Guest guest
Hi, Carol, You must feel sooooo frustrated and anxious! If I were you, I'd hang on to him because you've now done your initial intake and follow-up, so you're now his patient and as such are entitled to his expertise and attentions if you need it. I'd continue his treatment (but this is me) if only to establish it doesn't work, if that's the case. However, I'd look for someone else to give you another point of view ASAP. I can't help you with NJ, I'm in Boston. I can recommend a practitioner on women's health issues, especially BIHRT, in Stamford, CT named Pamela , whom I have found helpful. You could just try Googling BIHRT + Dr. + NJ, or NY, and see what you come up with. JesaCarol wrote: >Lynn,In your opinion do you think I should continue treatment with him? Guest guest
Thanks Jessa, Yes that's exactly what I am. I'm taking in too many points of view. And the thing that scares me the most is that Suzanne just had a hysterectomy, and Dr. Gillespie also. If they know so dam much, why did they have to have their insides taken out. That's a no brainer. Some might think it's no big deal but I happen to think it's a very big one. We are all just one big experiment. I want to go out of this world with all my organs in tack...I'm take my P for now and pack on another 15 lbs. But you are right...I'll do it for 5 weeks, try and find another OB and see what happens....I am so glad I found this group. > >Lynn, > > In your opinion do you think I should continue treatment with him? > It's not like I have a real choice at the moment, but I am so > frustrated. Guest guest
Hi Carol, Read your posts and I think you said you had hair loss? I don't understand a Dr. prescribing P every day with someone with hair loss. I did not do well with any form of P (tried them all). Orally got depressed. Transdermal gained weight and lost hair. Vaginally my bones hurt that I could not walk.At one time I just took oral P for 3 mos and my Testosterone went to 99 and my hair did not do well. I think that when you are pregnant the ratio of E to P is so high that these side effects don't occur as easily. I personally do not think we know enough about P and how it works on us when your own body is not making it. There is alot to know about how one hormone converts to another and what enzymes are involved and if your body converts P to a more Testosterone route you get into trouble. If you are located in NJ why not look into a Dr in NYC that will test you properly and spend some time in evaluating your individual needs. Guest guest
You are right on all counts I think, that is what I meant by not knowing how to speak to Dr's. Going to NY at this point I think is kind of pointless. All the Dr's I know of now are on the Progesterone bandwagon, and anyone these days dealing with Bioidenticals is terribly expensive. I cannot find a gyno that will treat me if I am honest about only doing P vaginally every 3 months. I'm not sure when I started to follow Dr. G's protocol. But the cycts and endo stripe developed along with cycts. My hair loss has been constant since my E started to drop. Dr. G. blamed almost everything on P. Well I've been off for quite some time now with no improvement. My hair is still falling out, I've gained 15 lbs, And my belly is so bloated and uncomfortable I can hardly stand it. ..Estrogen dominance?...I have not been able to get my E levels over 50..It' mindblowing to me that everyone was praising how great P was...Oh this stuff gives me a headache. I spent all this money on siliva tests..Ive just been looking over it and I dont know what the hell their talking about.... > > > > To Jessa, Laurel... > > > > Hello All, > > > > Well I got back from Dr. visit. Guest guest
I have a Dr on Long Island that I see as a gyno (have since been to see someone in the city that specializes in Vit D/calcium) she is actually an endo w/a sub speciality in gyno. She takes most insurances. She will let you skip P(take vaginal every couple of months) but you have to make sure via a sono that your lining is not building.About 6 mos ago I had a month long bleeding episode probably due to too much E and occasional P. I now do not take P at all and have lowered my E to .0375 vivelle patch and get my period every 28 days. No uterine buildup but I am on a good amount of Vit D and calcium and it seems to have regulated things for me. No more hair loss and my acne is almost gone. The Dr on Long Island is not very knowledgeable w/those issues but she does the sono in her office and you can tell her that you don't do well w/P and she should work w/you on the P thing. If you have insurance w/a deductible I would recomend the Dr in the city because she looks at you as a puzzle to be solved and most Dr's don't do that. She is expensive $650 first visit $300 after that and does not insurance. I think you have to figure out how you can work the system in your favor and to be able to do that you have to do a little research and some reading. Guest guest
I feel like that's all I have done is research and read. It seems that there is research to back up anyone's point of view. And of course she does not take insurance. Cash cow. I would never pay $650 for an office visit. I think that's insane. I thank you very much for the suggestion though. I have learned that big price tags do not necessarily mean the best treatment. I don't really think I have a choice now but to see it through with this new Dr. At least for a few months. If my belly swells anymore I'll explode In rhythmicliving , " bigbird3099 " wrote: > > I have a Dr on Long Island that I see as a gyno (have since been to see someone in the city > that specializes in Vit D/calcium) she is actually an endo w/a sub speciality in gyno. Guest guest
It might be a good thing for you to research why Dr Gillespie got a hysterectomy instead of implying it was because she didn't use progestrone. I happen to know that this is not so and I am one of those who used to much p and it caused hyperplasia. I guess all I am saying is you need to get your facts right not assume, for it may not be true.. Guest guest
Please don't take offense regarding Dr.G. I'm sure she is a fine doctor, what is speaking is my frustration. Suzanne has had one also and is or has taken P. This is my point. All I know is when I started her protocol. My problems seems to get worse. Not better. I stopped taking P, and still had the bloating, the weight gain and hair loss. But it is a very scary thing when a Doctor tells you you need a biopsy and another tells you your problems stemmed from following a Dr.s advice that doesnt really treat you. > > > >Lynn, > > > > > > In your opinion do you think I should continue treatment with > > him? > > > It's not like I have a real choice at the moment, but I am so > > > frustrated. Guest guest
That may be true but when I think of the amount of Dr's I have seen in the last 10 years and if I added up the costs I would have been better off seeing her first. For me she gets the whole thing because I was diagnosed at 35 w/Hashi and at 40 w/non classic PCOS and than at 42 w/Celiac she is the only one that can tie all those together. I might be a little more complicated but now at 45 I finally get it. Next year I will probably see her once maybe twice because once you figure what works there is no need to see the Dr constantly like you do when you are trying to figure out what hormones to take. I have a 23 year old daughter that had Osteomalatia and I shudder to think what would have happened to her 10 years from now if I had not done some research and found this Dr. She is an endo that has published studies and is affliated w/a respected hospital. I now pay about $145 per visit because my insurance covers the other half.
