Guest guest
Welcome Deanna, I moved to Arizona 13 years ago from Minnesota where I grew up. With FMS I know I would not make it in cold weather. I am glad you are out of there. Norene New to group Hello to everyone. I am new to this group but not to fibro. I was dx'd 22 years ago and also have lupus (which is in remission). I am 42 years old and live in a small town in northern New York. I moved here 4 years ago from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I have 4 kids, 3 of my own and (an almost) step son and have a wonderful fiance. All are very supportive and a blessing. Two of my sisters also have fibro and I am keeping an eye on my daughters because they both show signs of it. I look forward to being a part of this group and getting to know everyone. Guest guest
OK. I never received Deanna's original post, so I'll ask now...................what small town in northern NY? It sure is cold up there now! I grew up in Cairo. Not really northern NY, but, "upstate" none the less. It's about 1/2 way between Albany and Kingston - Catskill exit on the Thruway. Now I live in Austin, TX. MUCH warmer here!!! -Lori New to group Hello to everyone. I am new to this group but not to fibro. I was dx'd 22 years ago and also have lupus (which is in remission). Guest guest
Nor, I live in Potsdam NY.It is about 80 miles north of Watertown and 40 miles from the Canadian border. It has been terribly cold here. We have had frozen water pipes to deal with. I only hope spring gets here soon. Deanna New to group Hello to everyone. I am new to this group but not to fibro. Guest guest
I remember frozen pipes! My mother used to have to thaw them out while us kids were in school. I have a childhood friend that lives in Albany and she told me she spent her day off last week thawing out her bathroom pipes. Not fun. That may be why I like Texas so much. North Carolina (I lived there for 23 years) was warmer, but I HATED the humidity (100 degree days with 98% humidity are horrible!). The Austin area is really nice. It gets HOT in the summer, but with such low humidity, it is really not bad. The winters are MUCH milder. I hope you get some relief from the weather soon! -Lori New to group Hello to everyone. Guest guest
Deanna, I am sorry to hear about the weather there. Lately it has been getting down in the low 30's at night and only in the 50's and low 60's during the day. Now I know that sounds like heaven to you but seeing as I am acclimatized to the Arizona Sun my muscles and everything else is really giving me havoc. Wish you the best. Norene PS. Guest guest
We have been thawing them out with a hair dryer and now the drains are frozen. This is not fun!!! Guest guest
Carol, for two years, I tried using progesterone cream per Dr. Lee. They were a miserable two years and I lost bone density. Then, I had my doc give me sublingual tri-est and compounded progesterone caps, 100 mg. I spotted constantly and the pharmacist told me to increase that to 200 mg. That caused nearly constant bleeding. Truth was, I was getting an OD of progesterone which resulted in an inability to hold the uterine lining. At the end of five sobbing, miseragle five months, my E was < 15 (i.e., nothing) and progesterone was sky high. I abandoned that and found Dr. Gillespie. She has been a lifesaver for me. However, the every-three-months P suppositories does not work for me. Either the interval is too long or five days of P is not enough. Each time I used it, I had a bit of spotting for a few days. I read that to mean I wasn't building a lining. Ultrasound after 15 months, however, showed a stripe of 13 - too big. I tried 50 mg of P suppository x 10 days/month, every month but got quite severely OD'd - very sore breasts and weight gain. Each month was worse which leads me to think the P dose was not clearing. I think a dose of about 20 mg for 10 days would be more like it but I haven't tried that. I now use 2.25 mg of Estrogel daily and 200 mg of Prometrium (oral), monthly. I'm doing well on that. I was previously using 1.5 mg of Estrogel but never got above E = 61. I haven't tested on the 2.25 mg. Val -----Original Message-----From: rhythmicliving [mailto:rhythmicliving ]On Behalf Of Carol Hello everyone. I have just found your group. My story is a long one. My name is Carol. I like a lot of women are struggling to feel better after my thrust into meno at 47. After two years I still don't know if I'm coming or going. I started out on a compounded triest, with 100mg progesterone caps. Then after some reading from a so called expert, switched to bi-est which did not relieve symptoms. The dosage was going a bit high for my family MD and she sort of abandoned me. It's been a tough 2 to 3 years. After a while I started following the protocol of Larrian Gillespie, "The Hormone Diva" . She believes compounded estrogen to be garbage and recommends 17 beta est gel, with estrogen supp. every three months. After trying this I developed cysts. I do not know where they stand at this point. All I know is I'm having a heck of a time finding a gyno that will treat me. When I told the last gyno of my current protocol, she refused to treat me and almost threw me out of her office. I started hearing about Wiley and started to investigate. Progesterone, no Progesterone. Capsules, creams...take this don't take that, I don't know what to do anymore. Currently I just started seeing an anti-aging Dr. who has ordered a lot of tests. Adrenal, cortisol, DHEA the works....I intend to read all the messages here and see what the experiences of others may be....
Guest guest
Thanks for the response Val. My last blood results on the Climara patch was I think 30 something. I've had to use the gel since I havent been back to the new Dr. yet. Since using the gel my old symptoms have returned. As I told you one OB/GYN said she was nuts and we ended up getting in an argument. Larrian kept telling me to find a new Dr...I have been to one after the other after the other. I have never been able to get E levels up to what Larrian suggests. said my lining had been building up also along with the cysts. She said this shouldn't happen at such a low dose of E. 0.5 patch...She also said weight gain of 15 lbs was from P. My stomach bloats like I'm 3 months pregnant. I've not been taking P for a long time and am still unable to lose the weight. I'm having a whole battery of tests this time. Blood, cortisol,DHEA, parasites, minerals you name it. My hair is falling out like there is no tomorrow. Oh and have I mentioned I'm itching like crazy! Sorry, I'm ranting. I could go on and on. I'm seeing the new Dr. on Monday and have to travel two hours to get there...we'll see where I go from here....Who ever said meno was a wonderfull time of life needs to be shot.. Guest guest
Welcome Carol, 1. One thing we suspected after our Wiley progesterone overdose experience, was that progesterone builds up in the tissues and cannot be accurately measured. See Dr. Formby's article on this danger on the RL website. Estrogen gets metabolized out of the body quickly but progesterone may take approximately four months for HALF of it to be excreted. 2. Like you, progesterone overload produced a lot of belly fat on us. Small doses of P without build-up seem to work differently on the body than large doses. I never understood why small doses may act like a diuretic and large doses cause water retention. 3. Iodine in the form of Iodoral tablets has helped a number of women with ovarian cysts by in some way normalizing the estrogen receptors in the ovaries and else where. See the references on www.breastcancerchoices.org for this on their iodine pages. Iodine may also normalize the thyroid for you which in turn polices the sex hormones. One of our people lost 20 pounds just adding Iodoral. Dr. has also reported on this. Hope this helps. Lynne I have never been able to get E levels up to what Larrian suggests. said my lining had been building up also along with the cysts. She said this shouldn't happen at such a low dose of E. 0.5 patch...She also said weight gain of 15 lbs was from P. My stomach bloats like I'm 3 months pregnant. I've not been taking P for a long time and am still unable to lose the weight.
Guest guest
Dr. Magaziner in Cherry Hill, NJ? L. Interesting....I've been reading the site all morning, trying to prepare for my next Dr. visit. I am so glad I found this site, might I have been temped to try this protocol. I'm not sure where the new Dr. stands but I know he has a picture of Ms. Summers and himself in his consult room.

Guest guest
Carol, my itching came from the chemicals in the PCCA cream that most hormones are compounded in. If you use small doses that may not be a problem, but when you are putting many lines on and you are sensitive to chemicals you may itch like I did. Once I changed to my E2 and P4 in olive oil it all went away! I am still only using E and P in olive oil, but I add an organic base cream on my skin and then put the olive oil on top of that to slow the absorption rate. Works beautifully and NO ITCHING.I thought Karima's note on itching was interesting, because when I was diagnosed I had been exposed to excessive copper from copper water pipes! Can't remember if I had itching problems then.I did have a lot of skin itching when I was younger and found that cutting out all sugar could eliminate it.MadeleenCarol wrote: Does anyone have a clue on where the itching might be coming from???? > > Yahoo! Guest guest
I do... a little bit. He is my new hormone Doc, I've only seen him for an initial intake. He is VERY busy, and you will see if you read his website that he's involved with a lot of 'cutting edge', profitable therapies. His secretary says he doesn't usually get to his e-mail until a week later. He's also expensive. He was quite attentive during our conversation, which was shorter than was comfortable. I showed him the records I keep of my hormone protocol, and he xeroxed a bunch of them and wrote me a scrip for blood serum tests. He also wrote me a two month scrip for my protocol (I'm on WP, apparently successfully after 3.5 years) pending the tests and second visit (so he may be in love w/Suzanne Somers, but he's being cautious). I'll report more when I see him next month for my second visit.Carol wrote: Do you know him? Guest guest
I recently read the posts on this website for the past year. I'm 54 and post menopausal, I take no hormones, no type of HRT. My mother took Estrogen for 36 years, she had a hysterectomy at 39, felt crazy, started on Librium and graduated to Valium. To make a very long story short, she ended up in drug rehab 5 times starting at the age of 72. I had watched my mother have hot flashes for 36 years, I knew the Estrogen wasn't helping her much! My mother recently had hip replacement, her bones are in horrible shape, they had to put metal mesh around the bones to hold them. The estrogen obviously didn't do much for her bones. I read Dr. Lee's book, thought Progesterone was something for me to try, can't say it did much, so gave it up. I had horrible periods, went to the Health Food store, found a knowledgeable woman in the store that suggested something called Menopautonic, a liquid you took sublingually, it tasted awful but after a 45 day period I was willing....period stopped after another day and I was pretty happy about that. That was about 4 years ago, never had another period and never took anything else. I read Suzanne Somer's book, watched her on HSN have hot flashes and listened to her talk about her bioidenticals. Suzanne Somer's a very attractive woman but I watched her lips changing and her face wasn't moving as much as it did before, I knew she had to be using some type of filler in her face and was very disappointed in her talking about her bioidenticals making her skin look so smooth and her face exercise machine as her favorite beauty item. Then I read the letter from the doctors interviewed in her books about the T.S. Wiley Protocol. Honestly I don't know anything about T.S. Wiley, never had heard of her and her protocol. I don't want to be 20 again, I like being 54. I feel really good, I'm thinner than I was in my 40's and my skin looks better than when I was 20, I had acne in my 20's, 30's and 40's. Yes, I had a inner thermostat that had no TOP, I got really hot and the only way I could cool off was stop doing anything and it would come down, I had a little demon that lived inside me that could make me lose it! I had mood swings but that has all gone away, I think I'm on the other side of the "change of life". One day soy is good, the next day it isn't....it was too scary for me to try anything so I choose nothing and yes for a couple of years I was challenged off and on. I can't imagine that my body will sing if I take Bioidenticals that take me back to my 20's...that doesn't sound natural to me. So another point of view, taking nothing worked for me. I hope all of you find what works best for you. Good Luck!
Guest guest
Well that's interesting, small world. I will be having my next visit this Monday afternoon. I can't wait. He didnt say very much during my initial visit. He only renewed my script for another month on Climara patch. I'm really suffering. I've been using E gel , which I just had on hand, isnt cutting it. I'm back flashing and itching terribly. From what I'm reading here, I'm not to interested in WP. I intend on asking him his feelings about it. My feeling for myself is that I've been extremely deficient in E, for many years now. The thing for me is finding correct dosage and delivery method. Deceiding on P,how much and how often. which I am hoping he can help me with. Did you have all the tests he recommended? I did the blood and salivia. I'll be having the mineral test Monday and the stool test some time later, I've been trying to space it all apart, so my expenses are not so accute. Keep in touch. It may be interesting and maybe informative for others here. I don't know about you but I'm having a horrible time finding any knowledgeable Dr's on this front. I live in Central NJ and my boyfriend lives in PA and works down the street from Dr's office. I just hope I'm not setting myself up for dissapointment again as I too found the visit pretty short for what he charges..but as I said previously, cash cow.....At first I thought Sommers was doing women a service, but through all this I'm feeling she's a snake. Profiting off other womens suffering. Its sad but I think we'd be hard pressed to find anyone that puts anything before a profit these days. Heres to good luck for both of us.... > > > > > > Dr. Magaziner in Cherry Hill, NJ? > > > > L. > > > > In a message dated 10/26/2006 9:03:44 A.M. Guest guest
I wish you luck on your path! If you’ve spent much time on this site, you’ll know to expect anything along your journey, as all of us can be soooo different--. Has he asked you to get any histologic testing? If you’ve read in these pages you’ll find you need to in order to get a handle on your progesterone levels, as blood serum testing appears to be largely unreliable. I know that many people here have had terrible experiences with the WP and dismiss it entirely. A bad outcome is not true for everyone using it, so I suggest you don’t do this. If you are still looking for your dosage and delivery method, it is probably a good idea to read widely in this constantly evolving area of treatment (really, still a humongous experiment), look at sources and citations carefully (I am repeating what others have said here many times!), listen to your body, keep SCRUPULOUS records, and an open mind. And hey, Somers is being ridden by her karma just like the rest of us. Yeah, I agree, there are chances to tackle issues and be useful, and then there’s opportunism. Let me know how you do with Dr. Magaziner. Carol wrote: Well that's interesting, small world. I will be having my next visit this Monday afternoon. I can't wait. Guest guest
Couldn't have said it better myself. No he hasn't said anything about histologic testing yet, but it's probably coming. Suggested I go on the cookie diet downstairs, but I read the Dr. isn't supplying the franchises anymore, so I don't know what's up with that. I'm pretty depressed about it all. I wish someone would have told me that life as I know it would end at 46, rather than it beginning at 40....Sorry...I'm a little down tonight, I'm beginning to realize that I'll probably never get my figure or my hair back and it's pretty much down hill from here....thanks again Jesa...I'll keep you posted, please do the same.... > > > > > > > > > Dr. Magaziner in Cherry Hill, NJ? > > > > > > L. > > > > > > In a message dated 10/26/2006 9:03:44 A.M. Guest guest
Well I can't say your post has made me feel better. I have thought of going off E for quite some time, but I am here to tell you after 3 years of meno, I am suffering so much tonight, I don't think I could survive without estrogen. I'm frightened terribly and as I said in a prior post, I think Suzanne should be ashamed of herself. As far as your Mom is concerned, I think estrogen may have helped her if the dosages and type were correct. I can only speak for myself but had it not been for E I would have ended my life, that is how severe my introduction to menopause was. I have heard others say that you never reach the other side as it where. No one ever told me what a horrible experience it really is. Wish they would have. Wish you the best. Guest guest
I take everything I read now with a grain of salt. I realize that no one really has any definitve answers for anything. I thought I was so smart being on the bioidentical bandwagan before anyone had even heard of them. My mother told me that back in her day women often killed themselves around the time of meno. or ended up in mental hospitals, sounds drastic but now I understand. But at least we have many more options available to us then our parents. My mother will be 90 next year...Bless her heart...she never took a thing either....with what it is doing to my body...I'm not sure it's the answer for me either but I don't know what is. that's great about your diet, I find that kind of lifestyle impossible in the real world...you sound like your doing fine, keep up the good work....sorry if I sound cranky...I am extremely... > > I'm sorry my post didn't make you feel better. Guest guest
Hi Carol, Welcome to the group, What if a women exposed to P is the kind that esily builds it up in her body? If you read the interview with Dr. Formby you will see that he says that P can BLOCK our ability to hear our E. So if a woman had a build up of P she could conceivably start feeling worse and start losing her hair. Serum testing is not reliable for me now so I need saliva, but my P showed up and high T (wild high T). We aren't the same. Some women need urine tests and some of us just plain old don't do well with P no matter what. I know some women do not easily absorb estrogen thru their skin. Same with P. Some women have said it just turns to dust on their skin. We are not all the same. Some report that gel goes in like rocket fuel and gives them a headache. Others love it. I have noticed that doctors tend (not always) to have favorite approaches. Some are open and will explore individual approaches. I prefer to work with someone that is very interested in my feedback and my sense of what is happening. I hope you this current doctor is helpful for you, Laurel > > Hello everyone. Guest guest
Thank you Lynn, It is not easy for me to challenge a Dr's authority. Maybe I will bring different points of view to him and see how he responds. All in all maybe it is worth the risk to take the P and see if my cycst difficulity will resolve itself..thanks to everyone here for listening....and above all tolerating...my rant... I also think I need to start a Journal so I can keep track of it all better...thanks again > > > > Hello everyone. I have just found your group. > > My story is a long one. My name is Carol.
