Guest guest
I ask for SSN as most insurance plans want it. Have not tried it w/o it. Sharon or , do your folks get and money back from their insurance company if they don’t put their SSN on their CMS 1500? From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Dr. Sharon McCoy Sent: Tuesday, January 12, 2010 1:42 PM To: Subject: Re: questions about cash only practice I ask for an emergency contact also (who doesn't live with them). Can help if all their phone numbers change and you need to reach them for some reason. I've stopped asking for social security numbers and I never did ask for driver's licenses, but then maybe I should. And I get email if they are willing to communicate that way (that's what I use the most). General dos and donts of a cash practice.....wow, that's a big one. Any specific questions? SS# helps, too, but if you’re taking payment at the time of service, some patients may not be willing to give you that info. You want to know where to find you if a check bounces or they dispute a credit card charge. I’ve never had a charge disputed, but we’ve had plenty of checks bounce. Guest guest
With bouncing checks, in my county (maybe even state – CO) you have to have a copy of their drivers license to even consider trying to get the money from them with the legal system/police. Guest guest
, I've never put a social security number on any of the electronic billing I submit for patients (except Tricare) and it has never been a problem. Guest guest
Don't forget medicare needing a SS since that is the #.
