Guest guest
DEAR DR. DONOHUE: Months ago you wrote about a pill that takes away the desire for alcohol. What was it? -- C.H. ANSWER: Campral (acamprosate) adjusts the brain's messenger chemicals -- glutamine in particular -- and diminishes alcohol craving. ReVia (naltrexone) blocks the part of the brain that registers pleasure from alcohol. Pills don't cure alcoholism. They might be a help in a comprehensive program, but that's all they are.
