Well, I have been a member of alot of Yahoo groups for a long time - but these are my first Fibro groups, and I cannot really tell you why!! hehehe!! My name is LaCroix....I am a 34 year old woman who lives in Kearney, Nebraska. I moved to Nebraska almost 2 years ago - having spent the first 33 years of my life in California, 35 east of San Francisco. I moved to Nebraska after leaving my now ex-boyfriend, as we have moved to Washington state - and I couldn't afford to go back to California on my Social Security. Well, that move to Nebraska was the BEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME!!! LOL!! I was got sick 4/97, and was finally dx'd with FMS 2/98, at Stanford Medical Center through the Pain Management Clinic. I guess I couldn't have asked for better doctors, but of course, there was really nothing they could do for me once I was dianosed. However, just KNOWING helped alot...knowing that if I moved the wrong way, I wasn't going to be paralyzed, or knowing that it wasn't terminal and I wasn't looking at the end of my life anytime soon. Though, I do have to say, there have been a few times that I have wished differently - and though that may sound selfish, it isn't always easy to swallow that I am going to live another 50 years feeling like this!! :-( Being a patient at Stanford did allow me to learn alot of coping skills, and to try things that I know would/wouldn't work - biofeedback, water therapy, acupuncture, physical therapy, etc. I found that nothing worked or really helped - but at least I have tried everything!!! LOL!! Now that I live in Nebraska, I have actually found the " thing " I was looking for - the thing to devote my time to, that thing to fill up all of my spare time - as I have not been able to return to work since I got sick in 97, when I was an Accounting Supervisor for a World Wide Financial Company - I LOVED MY JOB!! I missed working for so long - but I have accepted that my body and my health is never going to allow that to happen for me again. But, since I have started working with Boston Terrier Rescue, and helping homeless Boston Terriers across the country - I have a full life again. I am single - BY CHOICE - and live with my Service Dog, Duke, a 2 yo Golden Retriever, who I have trained myself - and my 3 Boston Terriers - Jack, 5 yo - Meghan 3 yo - Hannah 1 yo. My dogs are my kids, and my kids are my life!! I have made my life happy, and would change very few things about my life right now. I have found a couple of medications that have allowed me to live the fullest life possible.....I take Effexor, 150 mg daily and Oxycontin, 60 mg daily. I have taken lots of different meds, tried alot of different meds - but these are the two that I have found worked best, and have allowed me to retain as much life as I can. Of course, that is very little - I literally don't leave the house for 3-4 days, most times - and 3/4 of the time I am leaving the house it is to take my " kids " to the park, and get my walking and stretching in. But I am not able to do much more than that - so I have learned to accept those times of things.....even though my " old " life was very, very different, I have tons of memories of the good times, right?? hehehe!! Again, these are the first Fibro groups I have joined, and am looking forward to meeting some of you and seeing how all of you are coping, living and learning to deal with this horrific thing that has happened to us!! , Duke, Jack, Hannah and Meghan
Guest guest
, Thank you. I have to go to my psychiatrist and my family Dr. soon so I will mention the oxycontin to them. My family Dr. is a little harder to deal with and I am going to look it up and be prepared with information on it. Who knows, it may be the one! Thank you, S.
