On the sedation issue...You should absolutely insist, unfortunately you will

probably have to get bitchy with somebody, I would start with my

pediatrician...Let us know what happens.

That is one of the things that I have dreaded about asking for the

test. I have finally set most of Marks " horris " experiences out of his recent

memory. He would be totally uncooperative and he is VERY STRONG when he wants

to be. I'll be curious of how this will be handled. I sure hope they listen

to you if so I may follow. These things can be SO STRESSFUL, keep us posted.

PS about the school.....................yikes I enjoy the freedom of release

we have here.

I would fight for this one. Anyone who has ever seen my kid fight over a two-

second ear exam would KNOW that there is no way that Austin would stay put for

a VCUG. I told his doctor that and she looked like she didn't want to do it

that way but I just said I wanted it done with his ear tube surgery. Unless

she wants to do it herself, I am not allowing Austin to be awake for that

procedure.

Austin is almost 4. You remember all of the similarities between our two

boys. Well, I'll bet a million bucks that they are just as strong and

resistant to people when they get scared! is probably even stronger

than Austin, although I sometimes think he is the strongest kid around!!!

Until our kids have a more sophisticated communication system and until they

can understand and not be terrified and go into a " fight or flight " pattern, I

just do not see how after a certain age, we can put them through a procedure

like that.

On the speech therapy note, I guess that there is really no way to know who

all is on this list at any given time. I think that we should be careful with

how much info. we give out over the airwaves but I also think that we should

be able to use this list as a forum for all of the honest feelings we have.

If you are stressing about the due process hearing, I think that you should be

able to share your feelings with us. The speech therapist does not live your

life 24/7. She gets paid to work with your child. And it is really the

school system that you have the fight with. I think that professionals

sometimes need to hear what we really want to say to them. Last year

Austin's speech teacher kept working with him in groups. I kept telling her

that group speech is not really worth much to him. She just couldn't get the

idea that when she was talking about dilapasauruses (dinos) with the other

kids, Austin basically was in a closet - couldn't see or hear what she was

saying and couldn't understand her even if he could! You know what I mean.

I would say just push for what feels right to you.
