Guest guest
...I just found out I am deficient in Vit D also – 21 (20-100). I gets lots of sun living here in CA and I take calcium with vit D so I don’t know why I am so low. My bone density declined this year also even with all the calcium and BIHRT. I was prescribed Vit D 50,000 units softgel (generic for Drisdol) to be taken as 1 tablet 2x month and retested after 3 months. I also did a 24 hour urine and my calcium levels were 87 (50-275) but were quite high in volume 2900 (800-1800). I filled the entire container in 24 hours and my dr. said I drank a lot of fluid and was well-hydrated. She was not concerned and thought it was a good thing, but I was a bit puzzled because I didn’t think I drank that much water. I do know – what goes in comes out rather fast. I am also suspected to be gluten-intolerant (depending which test I believe) and just recently numbers are pointing to Hashi since I came in with thyroid peroxidase antibodies at 36 (<35) which were 15.2 last November. All kinds of numbers are shifting all of a sudden. Reason for my HL? – the drs. don’t think so. I am still trying to connect the dots since none of the drs can spend enough time with me in discovery. Besides, they all specialize and can only tell me about one area. I have to do all work and I can see that all you ladies do too. Thanks for being there. Guest guest
I also had a low reading of Vit D even after being out in the sun this summer quite a lot. I think as you get older you don't make as much and there may be some that don't make as much from the sun. I am taking Drisdol 1x a week for now. That is D2 which equals about 2,000 IU D3 per day. Starting next week I take it 2x per week. I also take Premcal and which is 1000IU D3 and 500mg calcium and some magnesium. She also wants me to take a small amount of Vit K. I think that having Celiac does predispose you to certain autoimmune problems and also fertility issues. If you want to give my Dr a call I will get you the number but I am not sure she would treat someone without seeing them first. The other thing in this equation is the kidneys they might excrete too much calcium and I am taking 2 additional 24 hr urine tests to determine this. If this is the case she said there is a simple solution (I think she said a small amount of diaozide or thiaozide can't remember). If you want to speak further you can also contact me on my regular e mail sdavis4341@... Thanks Karin > > ...I just found out I am deficient in Vit D also 21 (20-100). Guest guest
Karin, A really good way to bring up those D levels and also get your essential fatty acids is from Cod Liver oil. I believe Mercola has this in capsule form. = ) I was having trouble with my D levels and was not even absorbing any sun that I wasn't getting any color, and I'm olive skin toned and do not ever have a problem getting color but had been having issues for quite a few summers but this summer I got my good color back, the only thing different is that I used the Cod Liver Oil through the winter months, stopped in the spring and started regular fish oil caps daily and will resume the Cod in the fall. It's worth a try. = ) Luv LuLu Re: For Celiac/Vit D/results from blood tests I also had a low reading of Vit D even after being out in the sun this summer quite a lot. Guest guest
Hi LuLu, I think that's brilliant! I'll try that if my numbers don't come up satisfactorily end of this month. I've had great support from taking Pregnenolone and DHEA in addition to a tiny bit of E, and had good numbers showing both for E and E, and even though I hadn't asked his okay for these supplements, my doctor was impressed. Presently I seem to do well with just Maca and Saw Palmetto cycling like you mention below for 3 weeks. I'm glad about your thinking and creativity. I think the gut damage has got to be at the base of this. Although one person has been off gluten and most dairy for years and she still was extremely low. Her diet is one of the most strict nutrient dense of anyone I know. (however she didn't use a blood test to test for this only bio-meridian...would be interesting to see if blood testing agreed) The explanation she got was that her gut damage was due to parasites...or at least I think that was it. I'll ask again to clarify. Lynn

Both the women I know who supplement with cod liver oil and had low vit D levels I suspect of low E. Lynn
Guest guest
When you are looking at Cod Liver Oil it has very high amounts of Vit A which interferes w/ the Vit D. In your daily multi vitamin the Vit A should not be above 5000. You can read some more on this at the VitaminDcouncil website Laurel provided. My daughter was on Accutane (super high artificial A) for 1 month and I think this greatly contributed to an already low Vit D level. I think that it is best to find a Dr that understands how this steriod works if you are having serious problems. Carlson's makes a Vit D gel tab at 2000 iu for about $8. As far as the malabsorbtion issues who knows if they ever get back to completely normal, but if you have Celiac and stay on strict wheat free diet the antibodies disappear. Does this mean the intestines are healed? I don't know. For those of us that have symptoms when eating anything w/wheat that also completly goes away on the strict diet. Guest guest
Hi Lynn, The cod liver oil I take has 250IU of A in it so it's not a large dose but I have certainly seen some that have four times that amount in them, that would worry me too. I would think a good supplement should balance itself out as many foods in their whole forms have what appears to be contradictory nutrition but in the end use it works well in the body. I agree, it is always good to be cautious with D as well as A because they can both be toxic, working with a doctor is a great idea for certain. = ) Luv LuLu Re: For Celiac/Vit D/results from blood tests When you are looking at Cod Liver Oil it has very high amounts of Vit A which interferes w/ the Vit D.
