Guest guest
Hi , Please keep us informed with what happens with you. I am in a very similar situation. I have recently been diagnosed with Still's after dealing with it for about 5 years now and my Mom also has a non-specified auto-immune disease with extremely similar symptoms to mine. Only, I have pericarditis a lot and she does not, but she does have the same rash that my rheumy says was the final symptom for him to diagnose me. Unfortunately, I am in Hawaii and she is in Alabama, so we can't use the same doctor. Anyway, my Mom currently has stage 4 liver cirrhosis and her liver doctor is frantically trying to figure out the cause so he can slow it down. Her primary family doctor discovered that she had fatty liver about 10 years ago, he said it was nothing to worry about and he would just keep an eye on it. She has been doing labs every six months with nothing major showing up. A couple of months ago she was having pain just below her breast and the pain would radiate to her back and shoulders. She finally went to the ER and they thought she was having a heart attack. Nothing showed up there and she went to a cardiologist a few days later and was cleared on heart issues. The pain continued so she went back; they decided to check her gall bladder for stones...nothing. They did a gallbladder function test and discovered it was not working. She did not have any stomach upset or issues. They took her gallbladder out, but when they were in there the surgeon noticed that her liver looked unusual so he took a biopsy. This is when the discovered she had stage 4 liver cirrhosis and we have been on that roller coaster ride since. She does stay swollen in her mid section and has extreme difficulty loosing weight although she is not heavy at all, only about 140. Recently, I went to my primary doctor complaining of swelling and abdominal pain. They did a scan and said that I have " fatty liver " and it was probably because I need to lose weight. I do need to lose weight but I just can't seem to do it...I've tried all kinds of diets and exercised when I wasn't in a flare and it just won't come off. I am just very concerned about this " fatty liver " . They told my mom not to worry and now look at her. I wish there was some kind of common forum for doctors treating Still's so they could compare notes. I just really think there is a liver connection. Best of luck to you!
