Guest guest
I have been reading so much about UTI's and many trips to the bathroom I had a bladder disease that was called interstitial cystitis, it is the disease that eventurally took my bladder giving me a urostomy bag. IC is a disease of the bladder lining, it gives all the symptoms of a UTI: burning, needing to pee, itching, not emptying bladder, the nick name of this disese is the mad womans' disease - as you go to the doctor and complain and they say negative to a UTI, it is a maddening disease, I had/have it. There is no cure, except for bladder removal. I was treated with ditropan for the need to go, uricid and uriblue for the burning, mepergans for the pain, and had to go on disabiility. It more commonly affects woman but can affect men. The link to learn more about it is: http://www.ichelp.org/ ==== Hello again, I wanted to add more about interstitial cystitis: Uricid or uriblue, turns urine blue in color supposed to aid in the peeing a litle more and less often and spasms if I recall correctly. Ditropan, supposed to aid in burning of urine and again help you pee more. The only way to diagnose interstitial cystitis is a dilation of the bladder, which is done under anesthesia, when they fill the bladder to overextend it and look for tiny hemoragges that are the trademark for IC. Methenamine is an antibiotic which is used for prevent recurrent UTI's, it is a huge horse pill that is taken 4 times a day, antibiotics that are good for UTI's bactrim DS taken only for 3 days, it is a sulfa med, Avelox 400 mg,taken once a day for 5-10 days depending on personal needs, levaquin 500mg, taken once a day, cranberry pills never worked for me and the warning on cranberry pills if you have a history of kidney stones do not take them so I cannot take them, please always read the fine print of information given to you by the pharmacy or google on webmd to read all about them, thanks and hugs, sharon m all of these are what i have taken personally, I am not a nurse or a doctor but I am a professional patient, with many years of experience with recurrent real UTI's and IC as well. just to let you know hugs, sharon, m
