-Sam, thank you for the helpful info on the TSH and suggested

further thyroid tests. Also for giving me a framework of reference

for understanding the pred levels/cortesol, halflife, etc. This

will help me over the next few days while coping and gives me some

direction for ordering tests later next week.

The pred has brought my immune system down (other problems up) and

now as I wean off of it, the anemia and the low (probably) thyroid

and coming off the WP and all hormones after some years feels like

the crash of the wreck of the Hesperes or some other mythical

disaster. whew. thanks again, ElleBlue

I have to reserve diagnosis until more tests for thyroid treatment

but definately don't want to use the synthetic.

Oh ElleBlue, I feel for you right now.  "Crash of the wreck of the Hereres"  Indeed!  You don't have to take it 'lying down'.  It isn't perfect, but some of us used E.  I wish I knew about the mineral deficiencies and maybe I could have made it better.  I've asked Dr. Formby if there is something about P that goofs us our mineral metabolism.  Or is it E?  LaurelThe pred has brought my immune system down (other problems up) and now as I wean off of it, the anemia and the low (probably) thyroid and coming off the WP and all hormones after some years feels like the crash of the wreck of the Hesperes or some other mythical disaster. whew. thanks again, ElleBlue.

You want to go with the synthetic what? Thyroid med or time release cortesol.

If it's that cortesol (deltacortril/prednisolone) that stuff ok, but if it's the synthetic thyroid T4 med, you better take a good long look at the side effects. 3 off the top of my head are hair loss, bone loss, and atrial fibrillation(sp). Plus T4 should always be Rx'd "with" T3, never alone. I can tell you too many horror stories that I won't go into here. I was on it after my healthy thyroid gland was destroyed and you just don't want to know what I went thru. I know of hundreds of folks with similar experiences. Just my 2 cents...

I'm the opposite. T4 will kill me. But oh my, you react badly to natural thyroid hormones, or they don't work for you? What about the ones your thyroid makes?

Um, uh, if your thyroid didn't produce any thyroid hormones, and you weren't

taking any, you'd, like, not live very long.

I went over a decade without a thyroid gland and on synthetic T4, which did

very little for me, and in fact I nearly died. For me, everything thyroid

kind of suddenly normalized with " enough " Armour plus adrenal support (low

dose cortesol).

I don't know, Val, maybe you've just got really weak adrenals.

I know Janie well. She and her family spent Christmas with us year before last. She examined all my natural thyroid products including NatureThroid, Armour and the generic. I can't remember what we decided but she enjoyed looking at each one. We were like addicts looking over my stash. We even used a magnifying glass.

I've tried pred, Cortef and those pellets. All of them made me so racey I couldn't bear it. My cortisol saliva tests are spot on. It is not cortisol but it could be an adrenal problem. I have a high aldosterone/renin ration. That is indicative of an adrenal adenoma but so far, no one has found it. As long as I consume enough potassium & stay away from T3, I do pretty well. Even 1/4 grain, after a few months, sends me into low potassium, high BP hell.

I must produce some of my own thyroid but went sick for at least eight years with no treatment. $ynthroid gave me back some life.
