Guest guest
For everyone who offered their (much appreciated) advice about what to do to help my tortie, Punkin, thank you very much! There was actually so much advice, and so detailed, that I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed. It was an embarrassment of riches! Tomorrow I'm taking her to the vet. I'm not hoping for much from this particular vet, although he is a very nice man and (within the limitations of standard, i.e., traditional veterinary practice) an able vet. Still, all I can really expect is an overview of her current condition. I will ask him about mites (due to her incessant licking and scratching), and get his opinion of a nearly raw diet (for whatever that may be worth). Unfortunately for me, Punkin is the fussiest eater I've ever had, with the exception of one cat, Sophie, who was a tuna junkie when I acquired her at four months old and refused to eat anything else for the rest of her life. Still, she was healthy until the day before she turned 17 when she died from the cat version of a heart attack. (Most of my cats have lived until their late teens.) Once I've spoken to the vet, I plan to try giving her Celtic sea salt in her water (unless there's another kind which is healthier), and using DMSO on the area of her back where she is inclined to lick herself raw. I have kept all the emails I received, and will work my way through the suggestions until (hopefully) something gives her relief. She is not a cooperative cat at the best of times, so all I can do is my best. Thanks again, Dianne

I'm currently using Celtic sea salt for my dog. They say it has 80 minerals and trace minerals in it. I have heard that Himalayan salt has 84 minerals and trace minerals in it and a lot of people claim to have good results with it. Might be worth doing some research on.
