Maybe not a bad idea to be taking it while taking the antibiotic.< Hi Gerry, I couldn't agree more! But there is another med which works very well alongside probiotics. Any time a doctor wants me to take ANY sort of abx, I insist on his also prescribing Mycostatin (Nystatin) tablets, thereby avoiding yeast flare-ups. It's amazing how few doctors have even *heard* of this medication. BTW, do not allow him to prescribe a topical cream or even the powder form because it are mixed with something like baby powder and cannot be taken ingested. You need the oral form. Ketoconzole and Diflucan may be more powerful, but I have experienced side effects or a yeast *rebound* after taking them. Nystatin is effective, but has few side effects and no yeast rebound. I ask for 500,000 unit tablets to be taken three times a day and continued for a week after the antibiotic is finished. Since I started to demand Mycostatin with abx, I have not had one single yeast flare-up. Also, because Mycostatin is generic, it is very inexpensive.
