Dear Bill,

The story you tell of your sister is indeed complicated. Basically,

we're looking at 15 years of an HCA and then abruptly being switched to

another.

Here's what the wonderful system of medicine has to say in 2004 about

Anafranil which has been around since at least the 1970's:

" Clomipramine (CMI) [which is Anafranil] is presumed to influence

obsessive and compulsive behaviors through its effects on serotonergic

neuronal transmission. The actual neurochemical mechanism is unknown, but

CMI'S capacity to inhibit the reuptake of serotanin (5-HT) is thought to be

important. "

The pain she is feeling in her back is because many of the

antidepressants distributes into cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) as well as the

brain. A metabolite of this drug is desmethylclomipramine which is also

distributed to the CSF. Stopping a drug like this abruptly causes massive

rise in cholinergic activity.

The doctor is throwing darts blindfolded by prescribing Triptophane.

Has she had any blood tests? Leukopenia, agranulocytosis,

thrombocytopenia , and pancytopenia can be associated with clomipramine

use.

Has she taken any Diphenhydramine (Benedryl)?

After that amount of time on this drug and stopping it abruptly, my

strongest inclination would be to see a homeopath.

Regards,

Hi , thanks for responding so quickly to my post.Regarding blood tests, does the fact that she is no longer taking Anafranil affect this and what are these tests likely to reveal? It will be a daunting task taking her doctor on so I would like to be as informed as possible. As regarding Homeopathy,I attended a clinic as a last resort about a year ago and was prescribed something called "China Sulph":which was taken in three separate doses but did nothing to help me. Do you know of any success stories relating to Homeopathy in this field?Dont get me wrong here.I am very interested in alternative therapies as a safe option to conventional drugs. She has never taken Benedryl, incidentally thanks again and best wishes Bill Bartke
