Hi ,

You are right that generally women do best on 4.5, however everyone is an individual and it is best to listen to your body. It sounds like you were doing better at 3.0mg. I would go back down for a while.

It is difficult to say what is best to do about the mercury amalgam removal . Of course it would be best it they were not in your body, but sometimes the stress of having them removed (body trauma) can trigger problems. Dr. Bihari had a patient that was doing very well on LDN for few months and then she had problems after having the mercury amalgam removals. He said that he thinks that the stress on your body is not worth it. Stress is the very biggest problem for MS in my opinion. Also, quite a few people have stated problems have occurred after medical procedures. This could be due to the actual procedure and its difficulty on the body, or the stress that it causes when one worries, or because of the drugs used, or lack of LDN for a while if they get off for the surgery.

Once you get stabilized (hopefully) on the lower dosage and you would like to try the supplements again, I would add them in one at a time so that you can see if one is effecting you adversely. I would also try an MS diet if possible. Again I would only add that in once you are doing well and you can monitor how that effects you without any other new changes at the same time.

Hang in there, most everyone needs to shift things around until they get everything right for their own body.

Kindest of regards

Aletha

[low dose naltrexone] too much or not enough??

Am I taking too much or not enough LDN?

My history: I am a 40-yr-old female. In Dec 2003 I had optic neuritis (ON) in my left eye…treated with steroids. MRI showed a few lesions. Spinal tap was negative. Living in land USA at the time. In April 2004 I moved to UK. In May 2005 I started to feel numbness in my feet, it crept up my legs. NHS diagnosed me with MS after MRI showed lots of lesions. No spinal tap done.

I started liquid LDN (Revia from medsmex.com in distilled water) on 10/1/05. I went through some symptoms in reverse order when I started LDN (I was expecting that “ghosting”), but otherwise I felt better. Stiffness did go away somewhat, l’hermittes went away, walking and balance were better (still couldn’t dart back and forth or turn a lot in the kitchen), dizziness went away (except when I turned a lot in the kitchen), ‘spaceyness’ was better.

From 10/1, I started at 1.5mg and worked my way up to 3.0mg. Also at that time I started taking supplements in preparation for my 11/24 mercury amalgam removal Potassium citrate, selenium, zinc, Vit C 1000mg). I was at 3.0mg for a little over 2 weeks, and then on 10/27 I moved up to 3.5mg.

On 11/3, my R ON was worse and I couldn’t close that eye by itself. Also the R side of my face, the muscles aren’t working well…I can’t squint or smile and my R eye keeps tearing. I stopped all supplements except my multivitamin, and it does seem to be getting a little better…I can close the R eye by itself, and I can do half a smile. Is this an allergic reaction? Or possible new symptom (and I’m in the middle of an exacerbation)?

I am without doctor supervision or guidance on the LDN. (In fact, the NHS neuro told me he couldn’t follow my case if I did LDN…my choices with him were CRAB drugs. Basically, I was told I’d be dismissed as a patient.) My question is this: Am I taking too much or not enough LDN? Women are supposed to be at 4.5mg, but people with spasticity are supposed to be at 3.0mg. Should I back it down (i.e. to 2.5 or 3.0mg??) or should I bump it up (i.e. keep working toward 4.5mg, but slower)?

Any opinions or advice would bw most appreciated. And thanks!!

See an Ophthalmalogist to be sure you are not having a new bout of ON. You may

be like me and have dry eye syndrome...worse in my left eye than my right eye.

Dry eye syndrome can feel a bit like ON. My doc gives me Natural Ophthalmics

Homeopathic Dry Eye Drop Formula for Women. LDN can cause dry eye syndrome to

worsen as LDN can act as a diuretic.

Try to go up slowly to 4.5mg and if you experience problems on that amount for

over a month then back down to the amount you feel okay on. If the problems are

severe on 4.5mg back down sooner. Try to ride out mild increased symptoms on

4.5mg for approx. 3 months and see if they subside after 3 months and if not,

back down dosage.
