Guest guest
oh my gosh! that's a LOT of prometrium..are you taking it only for 2 weeks/month? if so 200mg should do..if you're taking it every day then 100mg is enough..you don't really need 300!!! that's what's causing your weight gain! progesterone can cause insuline resistance... -J.bjrksadie wrote: I have just started using estrogel and prometrium for BHRT (this is my first month using these hormones) and am experimenting with dosages to see what works best for me. To date, I have been using one, two & three pumps of estrogel (I think each pump = .75 mg) and 100, 200 & 300 mg of prometrium depending on my cycle day. What dosages of estrogel and prometrium are others using? I have definitely gained weight in the past year, which is super frustrating since my excercise and eating habits have not changed. I am wondering if taking more estrogel might help with my weight gain - does anyone use four pumps of estrogel per day during the first half of their cycle? And what about prometrium . . . is 300 mg/day for four days in the second half of my cycle too much? I would really appreciate hearing about other's experience with (and dosages) these two bio-identical hormones. many thanks,Sadie #define QUESTION ((bb) || !(bb)) - Shakespeare
Guest guest
Thanks . I will try reducing my prometrium to 100 & 200 mg . . . I am taking it for 2 wks out of the month and varying the amounts as per a regular cycle. Does anyone have thoughts/experience re the estrogel dosage? with thanks Sadie > >Reply-To: rhythmicliving >To: rhythmicliving >Subject: Re: estrogel & prometrium dosage >Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2006 20:44:14 -0700 (PDT) > >oh my gosh! that's a LOT of prometrium..are you taking it only for 2 >weeks/month? if so 200mg should do..if you're taking it every day then >100mg is enough..you don't really need 300!!! that's what's causing your >weight gain! progesterone can cause insuline resistance... > > -J. > >bjrksadie wrote: > I have just started using estrogel and prometrium for BHRT (this >is my >first month using these hormones) and am experimenting with dosages to >see what works best for me. Guest guest
estrogel 1 pump gives you a blood level of about 30pg/ml...and it's equivalent to a 0.0375 patch. wrote: Thanks . Guest guest
That much Prometrium is likely to cause weight gain. If used every day, only 100 mg is needed. If used cyclically, 200 mg is used for 10 - 12 days/month. I use Estrogel. 2 pumps (1.5 mg) gave me a blood E2 of 61. I'm now using 3 pumps (2.25 mg) but haven't had that level tested. Actually, I don't use the pumps; I use the tubes as they are less expensive. I had to up my thyroid by 7 mcg when I upped my Estrogel. Val Does anyone have thoughts/experience re the estrogel dosage?with thanksSadie ..
Guest guest
, Do you use 3 pumps of estrogel everyday . .. or only during the first half of your cycle? Ie, do you change dosages depending on cycle day? with thanks, Sadie > >Reply-To: rhythmicliving >To: <rhythmicliving > >Subject: RE: estrogel & prometrium dosage >Date: Fri, 30 Jun 2006 01:22:22 -0600 > >That much Prometrium is likely to cause weight gain. Guest guest
I probably misled you. I don't use the pumps. Too expensive and I've heard that as the pump empties, the measurement becomes less accurate. I mentioned "pumps" so I could relate my dose to your's. I use 2.25 mg/day all the time. I stop when the bleed starts and stay off it for 5 or 6 days. I just ordered the 0.01 mg patch that is supposed to be changed twice weekly. I get really tired of smearing the gel all over. Update on my progesterone use: I decided to try 50 mg progesterone suppositories for 10 days/month. The first month wasn't bad but the second and third months were awful. I had horribly painful breasts and craved chocolate like a mad woman. I started gaining weight and my clothes got tight. I'd been so busy that I hadn't weighed myself. Finally got around to it and have gained 10 pounds. Phooey on P!!!! That is darn near a death sentence for me as I am hypothyroid and every pound takes three years to lose. Last month, I used 200 mg Prometrium and it was much better. Am on Day 2 of it this month. As soon as I get a new ultrasound, I'm moving to every three months. Phooey on P again!!!
