Guest guest
Hi , What an interesting post! I too am approx. one year into menopause and struggling with dosages for BHRT. I can't help you too much at this time as I am relatively new at all this. In any event, I would really appreciate your PDF file re. estrogen metabolism. I haven't had much luck finding a knowledgeable doctor either - I live in Canada - and am therefore trying to figure it out on my own. At present, I am taking prometrium & estrogel and cycling with them as per a younger woman's cycle. My biggest challenges are weight gain and brain fog . . . sometimes I fear I have alzheimer's as my memory is so poor. This coincides exactly with the cessation of my periods, however, so I am hoping instead that it is menopause-related. I did suffer from night sweats and lack of sleep, but the estrogel has stopped that completely. Hopefully, some of the other more knowledgable subscribers can help you more than I. warm regards, Sadie

Guest guest
Hi Sadie, If you'll give me your email address, I'll send you the estrogen metabolism chart. I'm sure the symptoms you described do not mean you have Alzheimer's! If you had even early Alzheimer's, you could not possibly be so articulate. (My father-in-law had it, and believe me, it's not just the memory that goes.) There are so many things that could contribute to the symptoms you described. The first thing that occurs to me is a thyroid issue. Have you had your thyroid hormone levels checked (especially TSH?) The other thing that occurs to me is neurotransmitter levels. If one or more of the major neurotransmitters is too low (dopamine, acetylcholine, seratonin, GABA), it can definitely effect your memory and cause brain fog. It isn't usually too hard to increase your neurotransmitter levels using the right amino acids and other supplements. You can get your neurotransmitters tested -- there's a simple urine collection test you can do. You can take a look at the website for NeuroSciences, Inc., which does the testing -- here's a page with patient information: https://neurorelief.com/index.php?major=475 . They have a brochure that you can download with information for your doctor. Or, you can call them and see if there's a doctor in your area who's already familiar with their testing. For help with this and hormone-related issues, you may want to check the medical associations that specialize in holistic health care and anti-aging medicine. You can find out from them if there's a doctor in your area with these specialties. I think the best associations for this are: American Academny of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M) and American College for Advancement in Medicine (ACAM). A4M's website is: worldhealthnet.com. I don't know what part of Canada you're in, but the A4M website lists 43 doctors in Canada at http://www.worldhealth.net/p/anti-aging- directory;directory,search,1,,1.html . I'm sure you can handle your health issues with hormone balancing and other holistic therapies! My best, > > Hi , > > What an interesting post! Guest guest
Hi Lynn, Thanks for the info on where to buy Estrogel and other estrogen products. I didn't realize it was so available. It looks like both of these places (along with Anti-Aging Systems) are in England. Do you know the difference between these two different Estrogel (Oestragel) products: Oestradiol Oestrogel Pump Pk 64 dose 25.50 Female HRT gel Oestradiol(Estradiol) Oestrogel special offer French 80g 7.00 Female HRT gel ? I'm having trouble figuring out how the quantities in each compare, and why the " special French offer " (whatever that means) is so much cheaper. On the patches -- I'm not quite sure how they work. The estradiol dose seems so low. Also, is the estradiol bio-identical? I think I'd like to order both Anti-Aging Systems tri-est product, and a pure estradiol product, since, like you said, the tri-est doesn't contain enough estradiol. I don't like the idea of the estrone either, but I do think estriol is very beneficial (I've compiled some interesting data about this). > > > the prescription items I have at my disposal in the meantime, until > > I find the right doctor. Just get the estrogel for $7 a tube unless you particularly want very exact measurements. The gel is squeezed onto a plastic ruler taht comes in the box. You measure the lenght of the squeezed up gel. It's either 1.25mgs or 2.50mgs delivery on the ruler. > and why the "special French offer" (whatever that means) is so much > cheaper. Yeah...shows you how incrediably cheap hormones actually are huh? I think Gillispie of teh hormone diva site has worked this out with them. Or they buy in huge bulk and it's just dirt cheap since no pump or anything is involved in making this stuff.> > On the patches -- I'm not quite sure how they work. The estradiol > dose seems so low. Also, is the estradiol bio-identical? The estraderm patch mastersmarketing offers is estradiol in an alchohol base (like the estrogel) but there's a membrane between it and your skin. The hormones are only supposed to be able to get through the membrane slowly, My experience did not show that to be true. The thing was dry after a day or so and a pain in the butt...literally as that's where I stuck it LOLOL Forget all the other names under the patch...they mean nothing as that's the only one they sell. I'm now using a climira patch ordered from inhousepharmacy.com. Not cheap but the estradiol is in a fat base (this is called a matrix patch) and it seems to be delivery more slowly and evenly. The alchohol stuff like estrogel and estraderm patches gets in it but way too fast. I read a study that matrix patches showed the most steady rise on blood levels of estrogen of the trandermal delivery systems. (they didn't look at delivery systems like olive oil) > doesn't contain enough estradiol. I don't like the idea of the > estrone either, but I do think estriol is very beneficial (I've > compiled some interesting data about this). I doubt it will. I've got a friend on bi-est cream and she's having tons of night sweats still. Gotta have estradiol unless all you want is a moist yoni. She said that despite using tons of cream it wasn't working and said her doctor couldn't believe that it didn't do a thing. I know her doctor and want ot hit him over the head to knock some sense into his brain !!!!! I've noticed since I've been using iodine my yoni is very moist. I think the iodine is very involved in metabolizing estrogen down proper pathways. Don't know how though.... Please send your data on estriol or upload it to our files!!!!!! Guest guest
Hi Lynn, Thanks for all the info on estrogel and the patch. The one thing I'm still confused on about the patch is that the estradiol doses seem way too low. Am I missing something? On estriol and biest -- yes, I agree that you do need estradiol as well as estriol. Biest formulas are usually 20% estradiol and 80% estriol. I've seen some data that indicates that very large doses of estriol can eliminate symptoms, but they would have to be pretty massive. On the other hand, I've seen quite a bit of data that indicates that estriol buffers the effects of estradiol and is therefore protective. I'll see if I can figure out how to upload my pdf file on estrogen metabolism. I think you're definitely right about iodine. There's some info about iodine's effect on estrogen metabolism in my little pdf diagram. Apparently, iodine enhances estrogen metabolism and channels estrogens into good pathways. I also take iodine (50 mg a day right now.) > > > > of these places (along with Anti-Aging Systems) are in England. Guest guest
> Thanks for all the info on estrogel and the patch. The one thing > I'm still confused on about the patch is that the estradiol doses > seem way too low. Am I missing something? No you're not missing anything. The doses are very small compared to what most are using here with creams, pills and others. A bunch of us who have used patches have slapped on more than one. And when we've used estradrem patches changed them daily (they are supposed to last for a week) The climira patch I'm using is itsy bitsy compared to what I was on last year with Wiley. I'm using Climara 50 giving me 3.8mgs stretched over a 7 day period. (LOLOL...I can see a couple of my friends here laughing as it's practically nothing!) But I'm trying to figure out exactly what does what with my body. This is NOT EASY during menopause because we're such moving targets every month. I went for barely having periods with tons of hot flashes and no sleep to returning periods, good sleep and no hot flashes. I have no idea of exactly why my cycles started back regular again just guesses. Whatever I did stimulated my ovaries to pop back into action for awhile though. Only a matter of time until they start to slow down again. This makes it quite difficult to get baselines. So I'm on low dose estrogen just maintain at least a steady supply while working out other stuff. More estrogen and I seem to bloat (don't know what that's about yet). I'm suspicious that transdermal delivery systems might be putting the estrogen in too fast. All I could find to control for that is the matrix patch. I would also like to try the Belmar pills but don't have a prescribing doctor yet. > massive. On the other hand, I've seen quite a bit of data that > indicates that estriol buffers the effects of estradiol and is > therefore protective. -----I'm assuming I'm making plenty of estriol as I'm fairly moist. But I could be wrong. I ought to order a etrogen blood profile and check it out. I need to see my estradiol levels anyhow. Been saying that for awhile but still haven't blood tested in a year! I'll be curious to see your pdf file! Thanks Lynn >
Guest guest
Hi Lynn, Thanks for the info on the patch. It sounds much more convenient than transdermal creams, but I don't think the low doses would do much for me. If you ever figure out how you jump-started your overies, please let us know! I'll see if I can figure out how to upload my pdf file. > > > > Thanks for all the info on estrogel and the patch. Guest guest
,... the Vivelle Dot patches range from .025 to .1. The point one gives a blood level of about 104 pg/ml, +/- 52. I wear two of these and do a shot of E gel and came up with some really nice E levels. 388. I found the V Dot lasts me for 3 days. I stagger them equally between the 3 days. The gel at night keeps the sweats away. Recently I have begun experimenting with layering a thin film of oil on my forearms, then applying the gel on top. The alcohol in the gel emulsifies the oil nicely and it absorbs well. It is too soon to tell if I feel it slows the gel down a bit in it's absorption rate... I suppose I'd have to be awake to figure this one out. ;-) Eileen Begin forwarded message: > > Hi Lynn, > > Thanks for the info on the patch. Guest guest
Hi Eileen, Just wondering if you had your Estrone tested /w that E reading of 388? Last time I had E that high my Estrone was in the 800's and I bled for a month. I am currently on Vivelle . 075 and every month I skip about 7-10days of E. I also take Vit D and calcium/mag in pretty high amounts. It seems my need for E has diminished and I am still cycling and taking no P. Just had a bunch of blood work done and will get them in a week. Was also tested for s (have Hashi, PCOS, Celiac). At least for now I feel that taking a break from E gets the receptors a little more sensitive, just a personal observation might not be true necessarily. Guest guest
... thanks for your input... no, I have not tested my estrone but will in 2 weeks and will post this info. Do you need to have a good measure of adipose tissue to manufacture and store estrone? Mistaken or not here, I have felt that because I am so thin and active that I don't carry much estrone... perhaps I need to reread Vliet... ;-) Yes, your need for E has diminished. It does seem that taking a break from E primes the receptors for greater reception. In our natural cycle there is a few days every month where E is blocked by P and there isn't much E produced either. Guest guest
Eileen, when my estrone was high back on patches, i was almost at my lowest weight...the excess of estradiol converts into estrone so it could get out of the body...btw, estrone is not only made in fat but also in muscle tissue. -J.Atlanta Girl wrote: ... thanks for your input... no, I have not tested my estrone but will in 2 weeks and will post this info.
