Guest guest
Karin, There have been several reports of getting rid of PCOS with iodine supplementation. If you go to the Yahoo iodine list, there is a woman there who just reversed her condition. I gather minerals and vitamin C enhance the uptake of iodine. Good luck to you and your daughter. Guest guest
I really appreciate these updates, Karin. You're getting really good information. My DD also has PCOS. All they've known for her to do is take a multi, low carb, exercise and use the BC patch. When I was going through testing for hyperparathyroidism, my calcium and PTH were high but Vit D was very normal. Val -----Original Message-----From: rhythmicliving [mailto:rhythmicliving ]On Behalf Of bigbird3099Just came back from the Dr. w/my daughter and she has her blood test results and 24hr urine back. This Dr. is an endo w/specialty in Vit D/Calcium PCOS related symptoms.I finally feel that we have made the right choice of Dr. Her tests came back w/Vit D being very low and an elevated alkaline phosphate (ostemalacia). Her E was 32 midcycle and undetectable on day 4 of her period. Her urine showed increased calcium which should be the other way around w/little Vit D.She gave me a basic explanation that for us made a lot of sense. For someone who is 22 when the calcium is so low the body compensates and basically shuts down the ovaries because the body could not handle a pregnancy. She said that the body pays attention to what is going on in other areas and this is it's way of protecting itself. She is going to take Drisdol for about 6 weeks and a maintainance amount of Vit D/calcium/mag and it should take anywhere from 6 mos to a year for the phosphate level to normalize.Backround on ostemalacia is it is seen in children w/Rickets and the elderly. She has currently been taking just the Vit D/calcium/mag for about 3-4 weeks and has already seen a marked improvement in her skin (very little new acne). The Dr. said that E also helps to retain calcium. I also asked her whether those who do not have Celiac have low levels of D and she said yes but when there are malabsorbtion problems it may be worse. I know most of us are not 22 but I wonder how this Vit D defeciency plays into the Parathyroid hormone/thyroid hormone/sex hormones and other auto immune diseases. It may be worth looking at.I will also see this Dr but will work on getting my oldest back on track first.Karin

Guest guest
Just read a study today done in England and those with high PTH that took VIt D had their PTH go down, even w/what they considered normal range Vit D and those that had normal PTH just stayed the same w/Vit D supplementation. I also read that there are those that think the lab values for Vit D may need to be moved upward for normal ranges. I love this Dr because she knows her stuff and I beleive she is also a professor at Columbia and has done the studies (basically PMS and PCOS). > > I really appreciate these updates, Karin.
