Guest guest
For fatigue try a teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a warm cup of water. I advise drinking it in the morning or afternoon, because it will keep you awake, thus giving you more energy. Initially, in 1999 when diagnosed, I was prescribed Ammantadine(symmetrel) for fatigue, but since taking LDN in 2004 someone on this site suggested the spice Cayenne Pepper. Also try water aerobics, it is the best way to exercise the legs and all parts of the body. The above info was from an earlier chat conserning Fatigue. [low dose naltrexone] ldn and incompatible meds Hello LDN Advocates, I've been fortunate enough to have started ldn tx for MS dx in June 05. Began ldn tx on 10/29 (homemade) - 1/2 tab crushed in 25ml H2O 3ml in juice @ 11:pm nightly. By Monday 10/31 it seemed like I could think more clearly, and B & B "normal" for first time in months! Same on each subsequent day. The down side however, waves of extreme fatigue intermittently throughout the day with pain and increased stiffness, can't keep my eyes open during the peak fatigue times. I thought I'd eliminated any contraindicated meds, and did not find those which I must take on the incompatible list, but it is possible I've overlooked something, "foggybrain" and all. I'll list all meds and would very much appreciate it if someone can let me know if I am doing something wrong or if what I am experiencing is expected, and will hopefully, resolve with time. Meds: Norvasc 10mg qam, Bumetanide 1mg qam, Tramadol 50mg bid, Provigil 400mg qam/ & 200mg PRN., and numerous vit and min supplements. Also regular aspirin or arthritis formula powders for degen. disc. and joint - osteo arthritis. Was using Spiriva for COPD, but stopped before starting ldn, that's been a struggle. I completely believe in ldn so the fault must be in one or more of the above.....Your guidance is needed and appreciated. Thank you. Georgina FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click. Guest guest
Hi Aletha, Thanks! Funny, I've had a great desire for very spicy foods in past several months but have not specifically looked for a correlation in how I feel afterward, will keep this in mind and try the cayenne as well. Had sworn off it for a long time assuming it was causing an allergic reaction, (facial swelling). Turned out to be wrong BP med which ultimately caused angio edema, discovered by ER doctor, not my GP! Poor cayenne - wrongfully accused. Been out of Bs for a little while, will get more while awaiting the colloidal Ultra which has all 90 vits/mins and trace needed daily. Small town, no pool nearby, but you are so right. Swam twice during the summer. Just wonderful! Focus on freedom of movement eliminated the focus on pain and stiffness. Darn Gravity! Have noticed some help from, oddly enough, tight jeans. Not at the waist, that hurts, but everywhere else. Also, earth shoes, funny looking but keep feet from hurting and somewhat improve gait. Lots of smelly muscle rub helps ease muscle spasms before bed. Would like to de-scent it for use during the day. Would you happen to know if there is any good muscle rub minus the scent? Thanks again. Georgina Aletha Wittmann <Aletha@...> wrote: For fatigue try a teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a warm cup of water. Guest guest
Hi Georgina, You are quite welcome, but actually the message about the canyne was a message from an earlier chat from someone on our site. Sometimes I will save chats on certain problems and file them away in case someone else has the same problem. Now, I am assuming that the tight jeans exc. you are also having problems with spasms, pain or stiffness. I looked up to see what others have said worked with this problem. I copied three responses to spasms, they are below. *************************** 1) Try mega doses of magnesium oratate **************************** 2) I just went today to talk to my neurologist here in Tucson. I went with Dr. Bihari's resume and the LDN packet from the U.K.. You can find both on the internet. When I first started LDN I had severe spasms in my legs so painful it brought tears to my eyes. I started to take a combo of calcium and Magnesium 500 mgs with my LDN. First two then three, now I take 1 three times a day and 3 at night with my LDN. I have no spasms or stiffness. I also augment this with Astragulus 3x day (thank you Dr. Guillmette) and Melantonin at night. This is what worked for me, hope it helps. *************************** 3) Several years ago, a friend (who does not have MS) told me that he had leg cramps at night until he started drinking 8 ounces of Gatorade every day. I had trouble accepting it, but I finally decided to try it on a regular basis a few months ago. It works! I ran out of it a couple of weeks ago and my cramps came back. After two days back on Gatorade, the cramps stopped. I am on 4.5 mg LDN.I know it has potassium as do many supplements, but it also has some electrolytes. It might be just the right combination. It works for me and it is pretty cheap. Go figure.********** I hope these old chats on spasms help in some way Aletha [low dose naltrexone] ldn and incompatible meds Hello LDN Advocates, I've been fortunate enough to have started ldn tx for MS dx in June 05. Guest guest
Hi Aletha, That's funny, I guess the "fog" hasn't lifted much as yet! I'll up the calcium/mag. dosage and try the Gatorade and Astragulus also....Can I take that with High BP, I don't recall if it too was on the list? Hip and knee cartilage about gone, walking is a scream; I had been drinking 8oz OJ twice daily with a packet of Knox Gelatin mixed into it to repair cartilage, it seemed to be helping but I fell away from it during an exacerbation. Thanks, this reminded me of it and I'll start that again too, maybe in Gatorade this time. Couldn't hurt! It would be nice to lose the new nickname, enmom! The humor helps loads though! Guest guest
Thats an interesting theory. I also wake up and find it very hard to get out of bed. I have ms but never had much of a problem getting up. I also notice that I am more tired in the evenings. I thought maybe this was due to the season of winter and less daylight. Guest guest
I don't see the fatigue as a problem. I see it as the result of re-energizing sleep like I hadn't had in so long I forgot what it was like. The fatigue passes, replaced by much improved energy and stamina versus pre-LDN. The only time being tired is problematic is after nights of not enough sleep. If LDN forces me to make sufficient sleep a higher priority, I see that as an added bonus. I think sleep deprivation is detrimental to anyone's health. I actually did try 3 mg for about 2 weeks. I was having great stiffness in one elbow and remembered the talk on this forum of lowering LDN dose to reduce stiffness. It didn't make a difference and it turned out the stiff elbow had a more ordinary cause -- too much work in very awkward positions improving the insulation of the new old house. I'm back on 4.5 mg and the elbow is fine. >Wesley, > >Since you are male the 4.5mg may be too strong for you. Since you are doing liquid LDN try backing down the dose and see if you are still fatigued in the AM. > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
After 2 months the fatigue is still the same, but it hasn't been a fair test as yet. My wife had a major exacerbation just as we were preparing to move 600 miles (including a day care and welding shop), so I worked 20 hours a day for 3 months straight and am now dealing with major stress w/ a 4500 sq. ft. house in a northern climate that, it turns out, is mostly uninsulated, an out of control step son and transitioning my father to civilized life. He moved with us from living in his shop for 19 years with no shower, no rules and almost no human contact besides me since he retired 2 years ago. It did seem that the overwhelming sleepiness that hit me 30 min. or so after taking a dose subsided after 2-3 weeks. Sorry I can't be of more help, but honestly, the move nearly drained me completely and I haven't yet recovered. If it helps, since starting LDN, I feel I'm recovering much, much better than before starting it. Guest guest
Wesley, many people do not experience symptom relief taking LDN, including improvement in fatigue. Anyone with MS who starts LDN primarily for symptom relief is probably setting themselves up for disappointment. Take it to prevent progression. If you're lucky enough to feel better too, that's great. Anyone new starting LDN, please read the website carefully: www.ldninfo.org.
