Guest guest
Not sure what this is, but if it is acid like heartburn, a lirrle raw potato will fix it fast as it is very alkaline. Guest guest
Potato + skin has a pH of 7.5 almost neutral, gastric refux is often due in part to dehydration so a glass of water would help and more water through the day on-going Jane
Guest guest
, The remedy I have heard so many people use is Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with honey. Then, when they wanted to actually remove the cause....they stopped eating the foods that did not agree with them. Coffee included. Guest guest
*I have cured myself of what was the onset of acid reflux. It had gotten so bad as to wake me up from a sound sleep. I began to take apple cider vinegar with each meal and also cut my caffeine intake from 3 cups in AM to 1 cup a day. That did it for me. In time, I was able to quit the vinegar too. Took around 6 months or more before I began to quit the vinegar. No problems. Is now starting up a very little, just after meals if I am working outside, stooping, etc. So I am again using the vinegar. No more wake-ups at night tho since the first time. Seems that the esophagal sphincter valve will tighten in the presence of a stronger acid (lower pH) Seems that caffeine will loosen it and allow heartburn feeling. Am guessing that our stomach acid content is not as strong as it was when we were younger. The vinegar seems to correct that. I have to take mine a sip at a time washed down with water. Otherwise it burns me too much. Some people can drink it straight. Bottom line is, it works, and you do not have to take a prescription med such as nexium, which does God-knows-what to you with side effects. And you do not have to be paying out hard-earned dollars to a doc for an office call when your nexium prescription needs to be renewed. It is a win-win. Guest guest
Many times reflux occurs because of gas due to not complete digestion due to LACK OF STOMACH ACID. If the acid is not great enough, the valve at the top of the stomach does not close completely and this lets the gastric juices come up causing the burning of everything in it's path. A shot of ACV after a meal many times will stop this. A shot of orange juice may also work. Reducing the acid will in many cases make it worse. That is the problem many people are having. Doctors give them acid reducers and they work until the body adapts and then you have a worse problem. It is an endless line of taking different acid reducers when all you need is a little more acid to make the valve close and help the digestion. There are also some pills (HCL) that you can take after a meal to help with digestion. You also should consider what stimulates stomach acid without anything to digest such as caffine. > > Has anyone any experience treating the above condition with DMSO especially in the area of pain relief? Guest guest
I believe there can be enzyme issues also, so the HCL capsules (trade name Betaine HCL) I take also have pepsin in them. > > Many times reflux occurs because of gas due to not complete > digestion due to LACK OF STOMACH ACID. Guest guest
The food wouldn't be the cause of the condition, only the trigger. The real cause is lack of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. It's weak enough not to trigger the esophogeal sphincter so the weak acid is reaching tissues that aren't able to handle the acid. I haven't tried the Honey/ACV but I can believe it would be helpful. There are protocols for testing and fixing acid levels in the stomach that involve betaine HCl. You only need to take them until normality is restored then you don't need them any more. Appropriate levels of acid in the stomach prevent a whole chain if undesirable events since it's the start of your immune system, and knocking out the acid sets the stage for other problems down the line. Guest guest
From what I have read, acid reflux mostly happens because the stomach no longer makes the hydrochloric acid as strong as it once did. (pH not low enough) So the esophageal sphincter does not contract as tightly as it should. That allows the acid to leak past it into the esophagus. The vinegar boosts the acidity of the stomach, and is in direct contact with the esophageal sphincter as it passes through it into the stomach. That makes it stay more tightly closed when food is not passing through it. While baking soda relieves the sensation, it does nothing to help keep the sphincter closed. Also, reducing the strength of the stomach acid via an antacid will lower the metabolism and digestion will not be as efficient. Taking an antacid of any kind all of the time every day will just lead to a vicious circle regarding reflux. And food will not be processed as efficiently so nourishment will suffer accordingly. I have heard of bicarb of soda helping to cure many things, one of them being cancer. I did not know that it would prevent/cure kidney failure tho.l Gerry > > Hi, > > What would be better for acid reflux than baking soda?
