Wow!!

What a great job you have done for so many people

June. Your letter may inadvertently help many others.

Way to go! I am so sorry to hear about your kitten

too. Cats do this sometimes and then reappear in a few

days. I will keep hoping that she returns soon.

I just love hearing about the uplifting news of a LO's

improvement. We do not hear enough " good news " around

here.

Good for you June. What use to get me is dehydration. That alone is cause for

concern.

I am sure you are helping all who are there.

And it wouldn't hurt to talk to the next level up, Ombudsman and then the State.

They don't really do a lot. Or they didn't at Mom's nh.

Dona R

Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in

a nh.

She was almost 89 when she died in '02. No dx other than mine.

I'm probably in trouble

Well, I took the bull by the horns and wrote a

three-page letter today to the NH administrator, DON,

ADON, and social worker expressing my concerns about

the lack of care that contributed to my husband's ER

visit and subsequent hospital placement for five days.

I am sure there will be repercussions that I won't

like, but I thought it was time they needed to know

that when I mention to them something is wrong, that

he may be getting a UTI, whatever, that they PAY

ATTENTION. All of this could have been avoided had

they listened when I told them a week ago that his

urine was smelling strong, and then when he was not

eating and felt sick, that something should have been

done. There is absolutely no comparison with the man

that went into ER Thursday and the one that came out

today, all because of getting proper care. He looks

better than he has for a long time, although he

doesn't make sense when he talks, you can understand

what he is saying. His speech, or lack thereof, was

so bad those few days, I almost thought he had a

stroke. Also, I had mentioned his throat was swollen,

and I have no doubt it was the " packing " that Shirley

(I believe) mentioned in one of her posts. Tonight,

his throat was normal, and all those little " folds " to

shave around were back.

Also, on a personal note, I had gotten a kitten in May

for company and had become quite attached to her, as

she was a lot of company. Yesterday, when I left for

the hospital, she was outside, where she loves to be.

When I got home, I called her but she didn't come.

Tried calling her all evening until I went to bed,

still no kitty. This morning, I figured she would be

at the door begging to get in, still no kitty. No

kitty all day or tonight. I don't know where she is.

She is all black, and I recently heard that black

kittens are often taken, particularly around

Halloween, and I wonder if that's what happened. She

has never stayed away, and all the neighbors know her,

so I know they would bring her back. I just hope if

that's what happened, they didn't take her to torture

her. I really miss her, even tho she was awfully

onery.

I was gone all day today, and when I came home, there

was a call from the DON on my answering maching.

Wants to talk to me. Now, I'll worry about it all

night what I'm going to say. But, I got it off my

chest, right or wrong, and perhaps they will be more

willing to listen from now on.

June,

Obviously you aren't in trouble, they are calling you! Now they want to talk.

They have to know you have seen MDs at the hospital and have some documentation!

You don't need to worry. They are doing that! You keep your head high. They

work for you!

She called back again today and said two of them were

going to a conference but will call back on Friday.

When I was there tonight, they mentioned that they

would brush his teeth before he went to bed. Don't

know if they will, but at least the message got down

to the unit.

He was very sleepy tonight, possibly Seroquel, and

would hardly open eyes but he did eat everything but

the broccoli, which he doesn't like.

For everyone's info, my kitty did come home. I

checked outside and the garage when I got up, no

kitty. A little later, I went to put something in the

garage, and she tore in the house. She didn't tell me

where she had been! She didn't look like she hadn't

eaten, but she really went for her food when I got it

ready for her. She has slept on her blankie all day

and acts a little " done in. " I wonder if she got shut

in one of the neighbor's garage, as he travels, and I

saw him leave Monday a.m., and then his wife left a

little later. It didn't appear anyone was home until

this morning, and it wasn't long after she came in the

garage. I'll never know. However, if we have little

kitties in a few months, everybody on the list gets

one!

June,

Glad to hear the kitten is home. I'll take one! If she was doing the deed.

Glad to hear the NH is responding to your letter at some level. Will be anxious

to hear how the Friday meeting goes.

Tonight when I walked in and toward the nurses'

station, all the ones I wrote the letter to were

standing there talking, and I thought, they're going

to all get me. I just said " hi " and walked by, and

none of them said anything. I went on in to my

husband's room with some clothes and put them away, on

into the dining room to feed him, and when I left, no

one was there. Probably didn't want to wait that

long. I'll be waiting on the call tomorrow.

Kitty seems to be glad to be home, but she was much

more active today, running around and wanting to go

back outside. She didn't seem to want to stay out,

tho, as it was pretty cold today.

June,

Great to hear your kitty came back. I was feeling very sad

especially since I have a black cat and every time I looked at him I

thought of you...

Hope everything work out better for you at the NH...I hope you will

see a change.

HI June,

Don't you worry about a thing - they are worried about their employee reviews at

this point and don't want anything going into their files. The people at the NH

are there to work for you and your husband. In the second NH mom lived in

things were really uncomfortable between my sister and I and the staff when we

first started to air out our greivances (sp?) but after time we really got close

to the staff and they with us when we all worked together. We had some hard

times with this last NH that mom is in but we finally worked out the problems

there as well. At the end of the day you are doing the right thing not only for

yourself and your hubby but for all those who are there and those who will come

after.

Hang in there.
