You cannot overdose Vit D when you get it from the sun. What you can overdose

on is man-made Vit D supplements.

I believe that is correct, that you can only OD from oral vit D. Before

you would be in danger of OD on vit D from the sun, you would be

sunburned, or your skin would turn so dark as to prevent the buildup of

vit D to be too excessive. For me, it is just a wintertime thing as i

am outdoors every day in warmer weather and not as much in winter.

The best form of calcium I've been told is [organic] eggs. Or better

yet.backyard, organic eggs. You take the freshly squeezed juice of lemons

(preferably organic) and let an egg or two sit in them and the juice starts

to fizz and break down the calcium from the egg shell. After a day or two

you'll wind up with eggs and their membrane intact but all the calcium/shell

removed. You simply shake this up (put it in a smoothy etc.) and it's that

easy. Recommended amount is 2 tablespoons a day.

For the best uptake of calcium, you need a form that can be easily digested.

There is disagreement on which is the best form of calcium for this need. In

all cases, there are a couple other things needed to assist the uptake of

the calcium. D3 is needed but an overdose of D3 can cause calcium to be

taken from the bones. there must be enough calcium taken to provide what is

needed to go along with the D3 dose. In addition, to assist and regulate the

calcium absorption, you also need phosphorus and Vitamin A. There are

products which have the correct amounts of each to provide the best

absorption of calcium.

We raise chooks for our fresh eggs. I have taken our shells and ground

them up real fine to a powder consistency and sprinkled on oatmeal. Can

also be sprinkled on stew and other preparations. Not sure of the

absorption rate, but am sure that it is healthy, if a bit gritty at

times. Most shells get recycled into the garden to replace minerals

lost to production of our veggies.

Unfortunately, the skin dockters are highly vocalizing the use of sun

protectant, avoid the sun, for fear of skin cancer. In my Dermo Office,

there are shoulder high posters in every room, disparaging sunshine. Most

likely there are fewer minor skin cancers, but far more serious cancers, I

grew up in the love generation, sixties, we got lots of sun and sun lotion

was mostly to moisturize and did not block out Vitamin D and the associated

good feeling of well being that also comes from sunshine. The amount of

anti depressants sold is tenfold.

These days cancer, osteoporosis may have doubled, tripled, certainly if I

can find a cure, tagamet, for skin cancer, it seems obviously there is a

problem in the system. In my single opinion, we have far too many

specialists, who ruminate in their limited box of knowledge, and attempt to

follow reems of rulez, and end up discovering very little for dollars spent.

Our government nutritional/dietary folks are a joke, bullcrap RDA, ouch,

allowing themselves to be manipulated by business as usual. The biggest

travesty is our school lunch program. We not only feed our little guys crap,

but we are teaching them very poor eating habits.

Some how our medical oath, " do not harm " , has a more true meaning, I will do

nothing that will possibly cause me to be sued by some ambulance chasing

attorney. Which puts the " power of decision " in the hands of Insurance

companies who's only obligation is to make money.

stay vertical, david a.

Here is a perspective on vitamin D and its relationship to cholesterol. Taking

high amounts of vitamin D do us no good if we don't consume animal cholesterol.

Being cholesterol deficient could be the reason why one can overdose on vitamin

D (which really is a hormone and not a vitamin).
