Guest guest
I get all this, but don't you guys have caller ID? that is for one thing, you can tell it;s the pharmacy when they call, and they can tell it's you. I also like to protect peoples privacy, but I don't mind the pharmacy telling me, " Hey, that patient you have on a pain contract, just brought in a script for 180 Vicodin from some doctor in the next city." That's a bit on the edge but I think we can agree that it is in patient best interest for me to know, and to speak to the other doctor directly, which is allowed under HIPPA, since we are both caring for patient. Cote' why bother? chapter 2 JUst now the sick wife of a patient comes in to me as new patient She is taking an antidepressant .ok. I go through PMH and no depression gets mentioned . I ge t to meds and she admits that has dug out of the drawer some old anti depressant becaue her youngest daughter lives with a schizophrenic and they just cut her out of their lives, Yeesh. I need to know what she is taking I call Walmart who is willing to speak to me with no release Course they do not knowSo I call prior docs office and a receptionist is more than willing to look and tell me But those teachers those mentalhealth workers nop,e will not even admit they know someone without a signed release I do not know exactly what HIPAA says but I think we are allowed to speak to each other when it enhances care. So teachers and mental health workers etc really should work the same as pharmacies and physician's offices.I could have been ANYONE calling up those places. Guest guest
Yes and Yes we too love the good glove saves made by other providers and the pharmacists.... But I just love busting insurance carrier's chops.... And many times lots of people only come up, unlisted, out of area, some 800 number or a number without a good ID name with it..... Many time the chart review bastards and the life insurance carriers don't come up with a very good Caller ID and goodness knows these folks should have a properly signed release form for us to scan and file anyway, they know the proper drill... Why should I make their life easier by allowing them to run rough over the proper intent of the law here? I usually call my patients and double check that the release I have is good and that it really was them who want me to release their info to ABC insurance carrier... I don't know most of our patient's handwriting that's for sure.... And I can't say I approve of a system that makes us collect and send out all this paperworkat $.75 cents per page while the agency the carrier uses is getting paid hundreds of dollars per patient to collect our medical records for our doctor's findings and work and the life insurance carrier is going to make a mint of of all of it as well.... But we are the source of the proper data and we hardly get a dime or a thank-you for it.... It's so wrong... Why not pay us the big bucks for all that information since it really is coming out of our charts from our doctor's work??? Think about that...
