MSM orally 1.5 t TID working up to 3t TID is reported in MSM The

Definitive Guide by and Appleton to be helpful in eczema. Working

up slowly is a good idea since MSM in large amounts can cause a detox

reaction, headaches are what I experienced with I began taking 5

Tablespoons a day for hip pain. I backed off to 3T and the headaches

ceased. Gradually increasing dose is always a good precaution. <smile>

MSM is dimethyl sulfone, that is DMSO with one more atom of Oxygen or

DMSO2. It is a colorless crystal, somewhat bitter but easily taken in

water. I buy it in one pound containers from jeffersequine.com or a

local feed store. I never pay more than about $7 a pound. And would not

pay for capsules when I can just shoot it in a small amount of water or

juice to mask the taste.

DMSO is not generally recommended for application to broken skin

although it is used as a topical agent on Shingles, particularly when

combined with Colloidal Silver. It can be compressed but pretreating

with Aloe Vera or Emu oil is helpful to prevent de-fatting and drying of

the skin. Be careful when treating thin skined areas to reduce

concentration to a lower percent, 10 -30% on back of neck, knees, inside

of elbows, face or mucous membranes. Blond or red haired people with

blue eyes may be more sensitive. Although I can use 99% without too much

reaction on thick skinned areas and I have blue eyes with reddish brown

hair. It is individual so testing is a good idea and working up to

higher concentrations over a period of days ensures that with topical

application the Histamine stores in Mast Cells are depleted, preventing

the itching or burning sensation for sudden Histamine dumping.

I have used it on open wounds and sores with no problems so it is a

matter of self experimentation. I use it when I dock tails in three day

old puppies and it keeps the area from infection or scarring. They do

not cry when I apply it so it does not seem to burn them. I always

dilute with Colloidal Silver since I make my own and a little silver is

always a good thing in my experience as long as it is mono-atomic

electrically isolated silver and not a silver compound.

DMSO and MSM may interconvert in the body but it is thought that 85% of

DMSO oral is excreted in the urine unchanged. In one study on cats 3%

was converted to dimethyl sulfide and exhaled. DMS is the odor causing

molecule associated with DMSO use.

BTW I seem to recall that Oregano Oil is helpful for Psoriasis, and

could perhaps be good for Eczema as well.

Hello and thank you for letting me join this list. I have just recently

become acquainted with DMSO and was wondering about using it to treat the

eczema I have on my hands, which limits what I can do now days.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Rori, I have helped many people & animals with a Mix I call " Mix

" .It is 75% Colloidal Silver--10% DMSO & 15% Glycerin..You need to shake

it up before each use because it will separate.... is a fellow that

does a lot of research & posts on the _Silver List Web -- The Silver List_

(http://www.eskimo.com/~mdevour/silver-list/SilverList.html) from time to

time... It is somewhat expensive to buy CS on line but if you go to the

silver site you can learn how to make your own... Lois
