Guest guest
Dear Sally, You said: << - thankyou so much for this and your other message of information and support. My GP is very nice and supportive but she doesnt really have any specialist knowledge about SSRI's (and there is no NHS psychiatrist working in my area at the moment - the post is still waiting to be filled!) My Gp wants to swap me to something called mirtazepin (Zispin???. She originally suggested cipramil but now says that if Im not suited to the prozac then probably wont be suited to any of the other SSRI's either. I REALLY dont want to do this because Im very worried about the swap from SSRI to something completetly different.>> ** There are a couple of flaws in her thinking. If you were able to tolerate Seroxat, an SSRI, you could possibly tolerate another non-stimulating SSRI (Prozac is known for it's stimulating properties). Also, switching to mirtazapine would not be helpful; it would only further complicate things precisely because it is NOT an SSRI. This would put you into a hard withdrawal. Cipramil is the least stimulating of the SSRIs (Seroxat is the most sedating). You said: <<Anyway she does at least listen to my opinion - so will discuss more with her when I see her.>> ** This is important. You said: <<In the meantime am planning to carry on with VERY slow withdrawal from prozac while taking the valium. (Because at least then if I do swap to say cipramil Ill be swapping from a lower dose.)>> ** This sounds like a sensible plan. You said: << I cant tell you how much your support means to me. Thanks again>> ** You're most welcome. I'm glad to be of any support I can. Regards,
