Piperine (found in black pepper) enhances the serum concentration, extent of

absorption and bioavailability of curcumin in both rats and humans with no

adverse effects. Piperine is found in black peppers and Capsicin in

cayenne. " Piperine inhibits several enzymes responsible for metabolizing

nutritional substances, stimulates amino-acid transporters in the intestinal

lining, inhibits removal of substances from cells so they continue to be

available for use, and decreases the intestinal activity allowing more of

the substances to enter the body in active form. The results of these

actions are that substances reach, enter and remain within their target

cells for longer periods of time than would normally be the case. " Can

capsicin in cayenne do the same thing? So far, I have not seen research to

suggest that, though it is used in traditional herbal medicine to increase

blood supply and thus, stimulate the beneficial properties of many medicinal

herbs when given in conjunction. I see no reason why cayenne could not be

added with a turmeric (or curcumin)/lack pepper complex.

Thanks, Doug!

Since I'm new to tinctures, I really appreciate this info.

Do you mainly use your tinctures orally, or can they also be used topically? (I

am guessing that tinctures made with turmeric would dye whatever they touch

yellow.)
