I intend to do just what you suggest, use the electric blanket to warm the bed and then turn it off before I get into it. I definitely need something... The temperature in New York is a mere 6 degrees as I type this! As for the microwave, that may be more of a challenge. I've been using it to reheat (not cook) food for years now.
