Guest guest
Kathleen, Someone recently sent me a " moringa " link, a source for purchasing. This is not a recommendation, as I know little about this product. Guest guest
HidalgoFoods.com sells moringa leaf powder for $25 a pound, which is a lot since it is light due to its being dry. I use this for tea, sauce, and sometimes i put in capsules. Google moringa oleifera and you'd be surprised how many website are out there with good information. In 2000 there were only around 45 websites, now it is endless, i just can't keep up. Some are copycats. PubMed and Medscape have research papers on its medicinal use. I suggest you read the paper by treeforlife.org and also by ECHO. Moringa is hypotensive due to its mustard glycoside found in its leaves. We drink moringa tea with turmeric, cinnamon, lemon grass, ginger, cayenne and black pepper. There is a report that this could prevent T-4 to T-3 thyroid hormones conversion causing hypothyroid, but only for females. The test were done in rats...so this is not really so conclusive. It is good for hyperthyroid, some cancers, stomach, etc. Moringa has so many uses. I stay away from roots and barks. Use only leaves for tea or vegetable, flowers and fruit are also edible. Here is a list of what the plant contains, but there are more which you will find at the above two websites i gave.: Dr. Duke's Phytochemical and Ethnobotanical Databases Moringa oleifera LAM. - Moringaceae Common names: Ben Nut -- Benzolive Tree -- Drumstick Tree -- Horseradish Tree -- Jacinto (Sp.) -- Moringa -- West Indian Ben Synonyms: Guilandina moringa, M. moringa, M. pterygosperma [search the USDA Germplasm database for this species] ________________________________________ Activities Number of distinct activities for species = 539. Guest guest
Hi , I have just ordered 14 oz of moringa leaf powder from Hidalgo foods for just under $20. Shipping charges are a bit high, but if the product is beneficial, it will be worth it to me. Thanks for all the info. A friend and I are proactive about retaining mental sharpness, and have been trying various supplements to see how they affect us. I have seen benefit from periwinkle extract, and now moringa sounds like it might be useful as well. For future reference, could you give us a first name or nickname to call you? (Unless your name is Tita, of course...) Dianne
