Guest guest
>I've got the industrial strength 99.9% pure from the local Agway store and I understand it really shouldn't be used due to the impurities.< I'm a bit puzzled. If your DMSO is 99.9% pure, what sort of impurities would be possible? That's the percentage I use, whether I have gotten it from a company that only makes DMSO or from veterinary sources. I've never had a problem with any of it. I almost trust the vet sources most, because it's used on race horses. If a race horse was damaged by impure DMSO there would be hell to pay! Maybe more so than if we were damaged... Dianne
Guest guest
I think you will find that the USP grade for DMSO is so highly priced and rather difficult to get even with a prescription that it is not worth it. I have been using the so-called industrial grade of DMSO for over 30 years with absolutely no problems. You must take into consideration that whenever " THEY " say something negative about a compound like DMSO that they may be biased to say the least. Think of all the side-effects that FDA approved drugs may have. Also, consider that on 60 Minutes TV show a few weeks ago, a USP grade of several drugs were found to be contaminated. Who can one really trust? Unless you plan to inject the stuff, the DMSO you buy 99.9% pure is pretty good and cheap stuff. If you insist on USP grade DMSO, you need to get a prescription from a vet and probably have him obtain it from one of his suppliers. doug
Guest guest
From whence came your understanding? I and many others have used it for years. Horses worth far more than I have had it used on them for a loooong time--not that their physical make-up is similar to that of a human but it is one significant test of time regarding DMSO. Buy it at Dr. 's web page if you think you shouldn't use farm supply DMSO. You can also get DMSO from health food stores but it's not 100%. Come to think of it, I don't even actually know if the stuff sold on 's web page is 100%. He does offer something called " ultrapure. Guest guest
The originator and moderator of this list has said that she uses that type or that purity. Pharmaceutical grade is expensive beyond your wildest imaginations from what I have read on this forum. > > Does anyone know where you can purchase 100% pharmaceutical grade DMSO (in > glass bottles)? > > I've got the industrial strength 99.9% pure from the local Agway store > and I > understand it really shouldn't be used due to the impurities. Guest guest
Thanks for everybody's feedback. I've heard that the pharmaceutical grade is extremely expensive. I don't plan on using it for injection myself: however, I have used it in eye drops etc. I'm glad to hear that several folks have been using it a lot longer than I have and it being fine. I guess it being stored in plastic, it has a tendency to deteriorate over time and thus breaking down some of the plastic which in effect could be absorbed by the user. If it were convenient (and not so cost prohibitive) I'd love to have some of the 100% on hand. _____ From: DimethylSulfoxide-DMSO [mailto:DimethylSulfoxide-DMSO ] On Behalf Of Gerry Simpkins Sent: Saturday, January 15, 2011 6:00 PM To: DimethylSulfoxide-DMSO Subject: Re: pharmaceutical grade? Guest guest
I purchase my DMSO from KV Vet--it is 99.9% pure. I don't think you need to be concerned about getting something more pure than that. This is what many of the people on this list are using.
