Guest guest
Janet, I've had this happen to me. My Dentist can put on a "temporary cap" when this happened, just like they do while waiting for a permanent cap to come back from the lab who makes them from mouth imprints. The temporary cap lasted me a long time...if I remember correctly it was over a year. I told my dentist I couldn't afford a real cap, so he made sure he used a good glue under the temporary cap. Just me... Thoughthere is no pain per se with the tooth there are very sharp edges to it.I cant afford the $500-700 to replace the cap right now and the dentistswon't do anything else from what i can see. I tried otc temporary dentalcement which worked fine until i ate something. Then it disintegrated.Do you know of anything safe as a more or less cover for a tooth untilsuch time as i can forck over for another cap? Thanks.janet
Guest guest
Hi Janet, how terrible, that happened to my husband while we were in Michigan on vacation, two weeks till we would return to Dallas..... his brother took a small file and filed off the sharp edges and used an emory board to make it smooth at the end... it worked, the dentist laughed at his repair of the sharp edges and told Bob he would have had to file off the toothe again anyway, so no damage was done... good luck, and don't let you tonge get cut and infected like Bob did before he told his brother... he had tried everything the drug store offered, even gum over the sharp thing, but to no avail.... hugs > Hi ; > > I don' t know if this belongs here but seeing as how i'm falling apart > all over, maybe it does and also you keep amazing me with your wealth of > knowledge. > > Well, a cap fell off a back molar and is irretrievably lost. No, i'm too much of a pain chicken to go filing my tooth!:-) janet

Unfortunately I don't know of anything suitable BUT you can take the fine side of an emory board and soften up the sharp edges. If anyone else knows of anything that will help here, please reply. Thanks :-) Regards,
