Guest guest
Good morning everyone, This is the first time I have posted to this forum even though I have been lurking here for some months. I have gleaned so much technical information and insight into the formulation process that I must thank everyone on the list for sharing their incredible and hard won knowledge. I am on a constant learning curve with the information from this group. Thankyou. I do not post often because I find that by the time I have read something in digest form the answer has already been given or my experience does not yet cover the field. For some months I have been using a cetomacrogol emulsifying wax which I formulate with 4 parts cetostearyl alcohol and 1 part cetomacrogol 1000. I love the sinkability of this emulsifier and the 'wet' feel I get from the creams and lotions made with this. Unfortunately my supplier's (in Western Australia) premises burnt down and are no longer able to supply these products. Can anyone recommend an emulsifying wax with the same formulation as the above? I am sure that it must be available as a complete product as it is used in so many formulations... I think even in the ever present sorbelene creams of old. I have searched the archives for cetomacrogol to no avail. Of course once I discover the brand name of the product then we have to find a source in Western Australia. That is a totally different challenge. Thankyou again for such a wonderful list. I do hope that at some stage I will have learnt enough and have 'played' enough with my own formulations to be able to give back some of what this list has given to me. When you are making your own emulsifying wax, you are making a self-emulsifying fatty alcohol. In your particular case, your emulsifier is Cetomacrogol 1000 and your fatty alcohol is Cetostearyl Alcohol. >Can anyone recommend an emulsifying wax with the same formulation as the >above? The INCI name for Cetomacrogol 1000 is Ceteth-20. The INCI name for Cetostearyl Alcohol is Cetearyl Alcohol. I could only find three raw materials that that have an INCI name of Cetearyl Alcohol and Ceteth-20. That is a totally different challenge. Lets take a closer look at the emulsifier. The HLB of Ceteth-20 is 15.7 ñ 1 and the HLB of Ceteareth-20 is 15.2 ñ 1. Emulsifying Wax that are blends of Cetearyl Alcohol and Ceteareth-20 are very popular and should be available in Australia. Do you have another source of raw materials in your part of Australia? Or did you plan on importing chemicals? Maurice -------------------------------------------------------- Maurice O. Hello Leonie and Maurice, This is a formula that was taught to me by a chemist 25 years ago...I've been using it ever since and it has never let me down. This emulsion is almost impossible to break and the texture of the lotion/cream is lovely. Whose business has burned down Leonie? I'm really intrigued!
