Re: Managing Travel

Hi -

You asked how I manage travel given all the meds, supplements, diet

restrictions, etc.

First of all, I relax and enjoy. Nothing is going to be perfect and I *AM*

going to find challenges I have to adapt to, so I leave with the attitude

that I'll do the best I can and be gracious about the rest.

I have this huge wheel that holds 30 days of supplements for a normal

person, but I have it divided " AM " and " PM " since I take so much stuff. I

take all my stuff as soon as I get up and right before I get ready for bed,

so two " times " does it for me. This way it holds 15 days' worth, long

enough for most trips.

We have a timeshare, so most of the places we stay are condos with either

complete kitchens or at least a microwave and fridge, so food is fairly

manageable. We usually look on the net to find the closest grocery. We

have a bag full of the " usual " spices, teas, splenda, etc. that we just grab

and go.

I pack lunch and snacks before we leave. If we have to stop, I get two

plain burgers and eat them off the bun, with mayo if they have it. I

generally feel like taking a shower after I do this...they are SO GREASY!

I drink bottled water. Once in a while I eat the burgers with ketchup (that

came on them...esp if we sent the kids to get them and they forgot my

instructions, which is most of the time) and did not die, go into a HG-coma,

or have a huge flare, although I certainly am disinclined to push my luck

too far with " restaurant food " . If I have a salad I ask for oil and

vinegar. Forget this at most burger places, the " vinagrette " or " Lo-Fat

Italian " is akin to poison to me! All modified food starch and

preservatives that make my body nuts.

I always fill my scripts before I go, so I have them. I only take four, so

it is not much to manage.

I carry a " health kit " with me: Epsom Salts, Ibuprofen, Benedryl,

acidophilus, and whatever the relief aid is for whatever I am currently

cycling. I have travel sizes of all my shampoos, soaps, deodorants, etc. I

keep my every-day makeup in a large plastic pencil case that snaps shut and

can be grabbed quickly without forgetting anything. Lately I added my

Sobikawa pillow to my travel gear...I love it in the car and or course it

helps me settle into a strange bed.

Is this helpful? I travel a lot...are there other questions I can answer?

Hugs, Roseanna in NoCal; FMS/CFS/Hg toxicity/hypothyroid; HG-strict,

grains/dairy/alcohol/caffeine/amalgam free; guai/robinul 8/99, undenatured

whey, 6 liver flushes, 4 grams inositol; 80% better
