Guest guest
I have used comfrey root powder [not leaves as they are less potent] in balms for many years, and find no real evidence from FDA or other studies to substantiate the claim that it is harmful when applied topically. and I doubt the molecular structure is such that it will NOT penetrate to the bloodstream even in a open wound. will correct me if I am wrong. LOL! It is a fast action healer and has been used for centuries for healing. However, if your concerned, there is another natural healer and that is goldenseal and again no adverse effects have been reported as far as I know. Goldenseal is an excellent healer and also used for centuries for this purpose. However........If your making a balm, my advise is to keep the percentage of herbal ingredient to less than 10 % otherwise it can be considered a drug by the FDA if you intend to sell it to the public, and you may not make any claims as to healing other than recording testimonials. It is a danger zone if your selling it, so read all the FDA regs very carefully. I have used both herbal infusions in my balms for ages, with excellent results for family excema and rashes, wound healing, and they are both on my favorite healing herbs along with calendula. hth Sherry Sherry's Creations Natural Care E-books & Spreadsheets for Beginners-Intermediates www.thompsonherbals.com/book.html _________________________________________________________________ Get MSN 8 and help protect your children with advanced parental controls. http://join.msn.com/?page=features/parental
