Guest guest
Hi all- I eliminated MSG 20 years ago. I never eat it knowingly now, it really aggravates my hypoglycemia and I fall asleep. I never used much aspertame, but can tell you that when I am at those meetings at work where they lock you in a room and throw in food, if I have a diet coke (with or wiithiut caffeine) I have stomach cramps and feel generally yukky within an hour or two, sometimes I have to lie down as a result. Now I only drink water and herbal teas. I have also found that processed foods make me feel worse. I've eliminated anything that comes in a package from my diet, including processed meats. I also discovered that certain foods aggravate my symptoms. They are grains, especially wheat and rye, but also any other grain (including rice), caffeine, alcohol, sugar, root vegetables, and dairy other than eggs. I do best on whole fruits, vegetables that grow above the ground, fish, fowl and occasional other meats. These dietary changes have made a HUGE difference. If you are recently diagnosed and (like many) have already spent a fortune on doctors, I suggest you try slowly modifying your diet as I have outlined. It can only help. If after a month or more of eliminating a certain food, you want to see if it really bothers you, eat nothing but that food for a day and wait a few days to see if there's a reaction. Dairy will bother me if I eat it daily, but if I break down and have 8 oz. of Breyer's once a month or so it doesn't seem to affect me much one way or the other. Hope this is helpful.
