Guest guest
I am on my high horse today - I found that article on novicaine/ps 20 right after I returned from a Kay party. At the party the consultant told us that Carmex contains formaldehyde, which drys your lips out and makes you want to use more Carmex. Ok, I have to admit I love Carmex and Burt's Bees lip balms. I am almost a junkie! It was all I could do to not raise my hand and ask for the research that backed up the statement, but held my tongue. deb schleich
Guest guest
Carmex is a blend of Menthol, Camphor, alum, salicylic acid, phenol, and fragrance in a base of petroleum, lanolin, cocoa butter and a mixture of waxes. Additionally, our Click-Stick with sunscreen includes Octyl Methoxy Cinnamate and Oxy Benzone contributing to an SPF of 15. Our new Mint Click-Stick has an SPF of 30, giving even more protection against the sun's rays. This is taken directly from their website.... http://www.carma-labs.com/CarmaFAQs.htm Formaldehyde, when inhaled in quantities as small as 20-30ppm can cause severe respiratory injury. When in contact with skin, it can cause cracking, scaling and white discoloration. When ingested, it can cause respiratory failure and death. Therefore, I would seriously doubt the FDA would permit formaldehyde to be used in a substance that is advertised as " tasting good " which to me means the manufacturer knows and expects carmex to be ingested. Another misconception I have found is sweet-n-low is converted to formaldehyde when it hits your stomach. Never been able to prove or disprove it...but again...I would lay high odds on it being a false statement! Rich
