Guest guest
I wish is was a fluke. They are native to Texas. In fact we live in an area that just a few months ago was woods. This is where they live and we have invaded their space. So now how to get rid of them is going to be and adventure. Thanks for the input. Guest guest
I read that if you put down catnip it'll keep bugs and mice out. . . don't know about scorpions! I'd be careful of how much boric acid you put down! My mother put some down under the refrigerator and couldn't breathe. Don't know if it was an allergy or what. . . Do you have an Agriculture Bureau or Board of Health there that might know what to do about scorpions? I'm with you about the exterminator, though. Have you searched the house thoroughly? We lived in Md. and a friend's husband brought her a bikini from a trip to some island. In the bikini was a scorpion! We searched the house thoroughly to make sure there were no more 'gifts'. Are scorpions indigenous to the area or was it a 'fluke'? Kate Scorpions > This morning I found a scorpion in my house. I live in Dallas and is scared > me to death. Guest guest
Dear Listmates, Some of you are talking about scorpions and them being harmful. Perhaps there are different types of scorpions around the world (???), but in Texas, where we have lots and lots of scorpions, they are not poisonous. They hurt like blazes!!! But when my husband was stung, we called the emergency room, and they said absolutely NOT to bring him in. That people panic (because it hurts so much) and do all sorts of weird things (like put a tourniquet on, which really does do dammage), but the only thing to do about being stung was to use hydrogen peroxide (which neutralizes the stinging) and ice, and forget about it. They also said that scorpions are not like bees, and people do not have allergic reactions to them. Of course the pain is a big reaction!!! But not to fear for someone's life, just stay calm and use the hp and ice. We carry several scorpions out of our house every year, some more years than others. We had many of them when the neighbor did construction on a new garage. It distrubed their homes, so they came to our house to play. And I must admit that I don't like to find out I've stepped over one, when I'm barefoot! Some people use pesticide in their attic to kill them. I hate the idea of poison up in my attic, over my head. And besides, if the scorpions are up there, who cares. They would much rather NOT be in your house. They just want to do their own thing, which does not include humans. And they can not dammage your house, like some insects or animals. I have a live and let live policy that works for us. Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in! Best, Diane Austin, TX __________________________________________________
