Guest guest
Hi, The only thing I can help you w/is repositioning... I'm positive some other memebers here will be able to answer all of your questions. Here are some really good links about repositioning: http://www.plagiocephaly.org/support/repotech.htm http://www.geocities.com/alittleone2000/plagiopage_ourstory.htm > #1...we are not near a military base (we currently live near > Rochester, NY) but there is a VA hopsital...would they help? Guest guest
, I guess that going to a military hospital won't be feasible. I would research the possibility of the VA hospital, although I don't know how much experience the orthotists would have with plagio. As for the repositioning, I see that others have given you links to check out to show you how to reposition . I don't really know much about Tricare Standard, but I would mention to the doc who referred you about the overriding cranial sutures. There may be a loophole in your coverage that would allow them to cover the band, because it was congenital rather than positional. I'm certainly no insurance or medical expert, but I would explore every avenue possible. It's a lot of work, especially with your husband being stationed overseas and having 3 kids at home, but it'll be worth it. I wish I could be more help. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi , I'm putting answers to your questions below each. > #1...we are not near a military base (we currently live near > Rochester, NY) but there is a VA hopsital...would they help? We > are Tricare Standard due to DH being stationed in Korea...so we have > a 20% copay which still would be $560 for each band...I'm assuming > the reason why it's $2,800 is because we have to have weekly > adjustments. The weekly adjustments should be included in the cost. I've never seen a STARband that costs that much. I'm hoping someone in your area can recommend a STARband maker that charges less and might offer a payment plan. I'm not sure about the VA hospital - kind of sounds like a long shot, but worth checking out. > > #2...What sort of repositioning should I try? I see you've received some good links to repo information. It's a 24/7 job. You have to do it every waking and every sleeping hour. It can be effective, but it is hard work! > > #3...When contacting Shriners/Jaycees what should I ask them for? I would explain your babies condition and see if they might be able to do some sort of fundraiser or perhaps they have funds that could be designated for your baby's treatment. Basically you want to ask them to cover the cost of the treatment. > > #4...do you know of any tax liability/fundraiser laws that I need to > be aware of? I'm thinking I have a few friends that would let me > put donation buckets up but I don't know what I need to do legally. I can't help on this one, but that's a good point. Hmm, hopefully someone in the group can help you with that one. > > #5...'s birth record stated Overriding cranial sutchers > (sp)...could this have meant anything? He was born c-section but > was head down and " engaged " for a VERY long time. Sounds like 's plagio may have started inuterio - in this case it would be congenital plagio and perhaps that would get coverage from Tricare. You will probably need your specialist to write a letter explaining this. Also, ask your specialist to explain what " overriding cranial sutures " means. I'm not sure about this one. > > Thanks in advance...you guys are great. I didn't expect such an > overwhelming response. You're welcome! This is a great group and you've come to the right place if you are looking for support and guidance. We LOVE to help - that's what we're here for! :-) I have a couple of questions for you - Does have torticollis and has craniosynostosis been ruled out? I'm assuming you've seen some sort of specialist - what kind did you see? OK - hope that helped! Please keep us posted. Guest guest
You were asking re Ph level---ThreeLac, a product for fighting candida, balances your Ph levels. brenda a few more questions... Okay, I've just got a few more questions. I notice a lot of you suggest grapefruit seed extract, oil of oregano, and olive leaf extract. In addition to being antifungal, all of these things are also antibacterial and antiviral. So, anyway, my question is, if you also take probiotics, aren't these things wiping out the probiotics you put into your body? Do you try to take the probiotics at a different time than the other things to try to avoid this? Also, do any of you track your pH? Could you post and let me know what foods actually lower it and which ones raise it? There seem to be many conflicting things about this. I've got books that say different things than what I find on the internet. I asked my nutritionist and the only answer she could give me was that they are still doing a lot of research on it. So, I was thinking maybe first- hand accounts are the way to go. I haven't noticed that much of a difference in mine with different foods, but taking a cessium liquid supplement did raise it. Also, baking soda seemed to raise it, although I don't want to ingest that much sodium too often. I made an order at the pharmacist for some potassium bicarbonate, it should have the same effect as plain baking soda, but without the sodium. Finally, have any of you ever tried taking tea tree oil by mouth? I keep reading you're not supposed to, but I have a booked called " A Cancer Battle Plan, " which was written by a stage 4 breast cancer survivor (she beat it even after the best medicine had to offer, includig 2 stem cell transplants failed) where she says she took 3 drops 3 times a day while she was recovering from cancer. She also did all sorts of other supplements and diet, too. She felt she needed the tea tree oil because her immune system was totally wiped out after the stem cell transplants and all the chemo, and she didn't want to catch any opportunistic infection. She said she still to this day takes 3 drops once or twice a week to prevent any sort of illness. So, she obviously didn't die from it, quite the contrary. nah
Guest guest
As per the tea tree oil...there are two kinds: one for external use only, and one that is safe to ingest. Check with your nutritionist or ask at the health food store. Or Duncan could probably advise you. > You were asking re Ph level---ThreeLac, a product > for fighting candida, balances your Ph levels. > > brenda > > a few more questions... > > > Okay, > > I've just got a few more questions. Guest guest
, Thanks for the info. Have you been testing your pH? Does it balance it to be neutral, or are you aiming for slightly alkaline? I know that yeast seems to like slightly acid environments, or at least it seems so, since in vaginal yeast infections, the pH is always around 4.5 or so. nah > You were asking re Ph level---ThreeLac, a product for fighting candida, balances your Ph levels. > > brenda > > a few more questions... > > > Okay, > > I've just got a few more questions. Guest guest
no, I haven't ever had it tested. But, that is interesting about the numbers you gave--4.5--I'd be curious to know what mine is and what a few more months of ThreeLac will do if it is supposed to be balancing the Ph levels to " normal " levels. Is it costly for you to test your levels? thanks brenda a few more questions... > > > Okay, > > I've just got a few more questions. Guest guest
, The 4.5 number for vaginal yeast infections is something I read online somewhere, I think it was a website for gynecologists to reference. It was also saying that yeast infections down there commonly occur right before or during your period. So, I was trying also to figure out what pH different hormones are at, I was assuming that progesterone must make your pH higher (more alkaline), since it is high then drops right before your period. So, that means your body would get more acid right before your period due to the drop in progesterone. I didn't have any luck confirming that, though (too bad, it would have been nice to learn if I could help prevent yeast infections w/ natural progesterone cream). pH is very hard to search for on the web, since everyone with a PHd shows up! You pH isn't expensive at all to test. Just buy some pH test strips. The ones I have can test the whole spectrum of pH values, you can also buy narrower range ones, so that you can get a more exact number. I bought them from some science store online. You can also usually buy them at pool supply stores. You test either your saliva or your urine. I usually test my saliva, but you need to do it first thing in the morning before drinking anything, and spit a few times into the sink (I read that somewhere) before spitting on to the strip. I'm not sure exactly how you would go about testing the pH of the vagina itself. nah > > You were asking re Ph level---ThreeLac, a product for fighting > candida, balances your Ph levels. > > > > brenda > > > > a few more questions... > > > > > > Okay, > > > > I've just got a few more questions.
