Guest guest
How interesting. I would have never thought of that. Here is a song. Mraz - The Remedy (I Won't Worry) I saw fireworks from the freeway and behind closed eyes I cannot make them go awayCause you were born on the fourth of july, freedom ring now something on the surface it stingsthat something on the surface it kind of makes me nervous who says that you deserve thisand what kind of god would serve this? We will cure this dirty old diseaseif you've gots the poison I've gots the remedythe remedy is the experience. It is a dangerous liaisonI say the comedy is that its serious. Which is a strange enough new play on wordsI say the tragedy is how you're gonna spend the rest of your nights with the light onSo shine the light on all of your friends when it all amounts to nothing in the end.I won't worry my life away.I won't worry my life away.I heard two men talking on the radio in a cross fire kind of new reality showUncovering the ways to plan the next big attack they were counting down the days to stab the brother in the be right back after thisthe unavoidable kiss, where the minty fresh death breath is sure to outlast his catastrophedance with me, because if you've gots the poison, I've gots the remedy the remedy is the experience. And, yes, playing them helps with anxiety (sometimes). Also, even when I am not anxious I play it sometimes to remind myself of the good work I am doing, as ACT can be very difficult. So here's my playlist. If you have additions or comments, reply to the thread. I really give my age away with these song selections: The Wind - Cat s Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness - Smashing Pumpkins Violet - Hole Muzzle - Smashing Pumpkins You Are the Everything - REM (best description of using mindfulness to relax while your worry thoughts are taking over) We Close Our Eyes - Oingo Boingo Lithium - Nirvana (contrary to popular belief, this song is not about mental illness, it is about clinging to false beliefs as if they are some kind of life saving drug - great for understanding how to deal with fusion) Take it With Me - Tom Waits Come on up to the House - Tom Waits Learning to Fly - Pink Floyd On the Road to Find Out - Cat s China Cat Sunflower - Grateful Dead Fearless - Pink Floyd Theives Like Us - New Order Insantiy - Oingo Boingo Curious to hear what you all think - maybe creating an ACT playlist can be a fun way to reinforce ACT, who knows? Guest guest
That was a cool idea. One of mine is this old ditty from Donovan that I find myself singing frequently. Happiness runs in a circular motion Thought is like little boat upon the sea Everybody is a part of everything anyway You can have everything if you let yourself be Happiness runs, happiness runs Laurel Subject: Re: ACT playlist?!To: ACT_for_the_Public Date: Thursday, September 11, 2008, 3:52 AM Terrific List. Guest guest
Hi everyone I think that music is a powerful tool in the ACT/mindfulness toolkit. I find that much music is a real aid to being in the mindful moment; for instance, try the adagio from Mozart’s clarinet concerto, or the first movement of his clarinet quintet. Just be with the music – don’t try to analyse or understand it, and your mind will have a hard time trying to get through. Regards Kinna This e-mail is personal. Guest guest
I like how we are all coming up with different playlists, that was my intention, to show how we all interpret ACT individually. For me, music needs lyrics - music is really poetry more than sound, and that's why I love poetry, because it can teach you how to be mindful by focusing on words and concepts ... not all language is evil... for me, the right poetry can get me to a mindful state as easily as breathing or instrumental music. that's my 2 cents anyway. Any more playlists? Really, this is fun... All the best, Oh, that's a good exercise for me, as I often don't like (or think I don't like) clarinets in classical music.L. Guest guest
HI, Oh how I love Classical music. When I took Piano that is what I played. It is very mindful in my humble view. Guest guest
One song I like as sort of an acceptance and willingness piece is and old standard " Good Morning Heartache " . It's not motivational. It neither quiets the mind nor soothes. But it does sort of put song to greeting, having, struggling, then not struggling...greeting, having, struggling, then not struggling... I like the little bit of struggle in there because struggle happens. By " struggle " I mean trying to push feelings away or tangle up with thoughts. I listen or sing sometimes as a way of watching and accepting even my " I don't want this " thoughts about painful feelings. It's not perfectly Dalai Lama, but who is? (Not even DL himself) A well known recording is by Holiday, although I think Ella wrote it. Here is if you want to listen...lyrics below... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQ3PVm6YbmU -Tami Good morning, Heartache, you old gloomy sight. Good morning, Heartache Thought we said goodbye last night I turned and tossed until it seems you have gone' but here you are with the dawn. Wish I could forget you, but you're here to stay. It seems I met you when my love went away. Now everyday it seems I'm saying to you 'Good morning heartache; what's new?' Stop haunting me now. Can't shake you no how. Just leave me alone. I've got those Monday blues... straight to Sunday blues. Good morning, heartache. Here we go again. Good morning, heartache. You're the one Who knows me well Might as well get used to you hanging around. Good morning, Heartache; ....sit down.
Guest guest
> <snip> > > Any more playlists? Really, this is fun... > > All the best, > > Hi I tend to find parts of songs, rather than the whole song helpful so shine by take that, with its references to being in a hole (which I cant dig my way out of), being able to change, not letting demons drag me down can be helpful http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/takethat/shine.html http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=WVxgLiNGBvI monster by the automatic which in fact is not really lyrically related to ACT, I found useful particularly when getting into total states of panic, sing the chorus to myself just as a reminder that its just my anxiety monster. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=qY9hjZoQ1r0 Apart from that, I find I use lyrics in songs as defusion exercises. (I have mentioned this before, but there may be new people on the list who might find it helpful so I will repeat myself For example when I think 'I cant ... (cope/do this/whatever)' I can think of the beatles song 'cant do that' Or more specifically if I think 'I cant go on' then there is the handy 'reach out (I'll be there)' lyric by the four tops. Various artists have particularly helpful lyrics for me, trent reznor (nine inch nails), jesus and mary chain, smiths.
