Guest guest
So...if I'm understanding these comments correctly, olive oil will strip hair of even permanent color? I have some old color on my hair that I'm growing out but it takes forever...so if I were to condition with straight olive oil or a conditioner primarily made with olive oil, would it help the color fade? Thanks... Guest guest
Okay...my mistake...the discussion wasn't on this list. I have no idea how it's supposed to happen, but this makes the third or fourth time I've seen it mentioned that olive oil is not good for color treated hair because it strips the color. Hope someone knows a little more about this... Merin http://www.goodcleansoap.com In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is strength, in water there is bacteria. --Irish Proverb > Hi Merin, > What?? Guest guest
Hi Merin, Olive Oil will strip some of the Hennas, but not the chemicals we use today for colouring the hair. Olive Oil has been used for centuries for moisturizing the skin and hair. ----- Original Message ----- > Okay...my mistake...the discussion wasn't on this list. Guest guest
Actually, in this case it was my fault...the posts I'd seen weren't on this list. I use a mix of henna, olive oil and lemon juice as a " fake tan " on my skin. Olive oil is the primary ingredient, around 80%. It serves the purpose of not me becoming " painted " instead of tan. I have to apply the mix for at least 8 days before the " tan " actually shows. When making henna tatoo, you have to take care removing any oil on the skin you want to decorate. Skin oil, lotion, cream or residue from superfatted CP soap will prevent henna to color the skin. But that's because henna will not be really in contact with skin. Oil will act as a shield. Speaking of henna, EOs high in terpene added at a rate of 2.5% of the henna paste will make the darkest tatoo (I don't speak of that horror named black henna and which is actually dangerous, I speak about the real henna which colors the skin orange to rusty red). The color of the tatoo first will appear very lightly but it darkens tremendously after 24 hours. This is really an aromatic delight to apply such a paste! But I digress... Guest guest
Hello, I am new to the list and mostly have just been reading til now. I was very surprised to see the post about the olive oil stripping color and henna.... I have been a hairdresser for 25 years and I wish this were true. I cant help but think it acts more as a shield like you stated than to strip the color. It may have a way of causing the color to lift slightly, or prevent the color from penetrating the hair shaft but not strip the color. I cant understand how it could do that for usually its peroxide, bleach or ammonia that is mainly used in those products. If it were, it would be a hairdressers wonder products... to strip hair and leave it well conditioned.... lol > When making henna tatoo, you have to take care removing any oil on > the skin you want to decorate.
