Guest guest
Hi and Everybody. > Just a warning...that message from labcolours...re inci schminci..is a > virus.. As I mentioned the other day, there is no need to worry about getting a virus through CosmeticInfo as attachments are not allowed on the list. Had you scrolled down that message you would have seen a notice that the attachment had been deleted. Pat. Peace, Joy, Serenity House of Scents tm. Guest guest
Sorry Pat...I didn't realize that. When I single clicked on the attachment, it brought up my red virus box. I didn't see the notice saying it was deleted. Where is that notice anyway? Maybe all these things I'm getting are bogus? I didn't see the notice saying it was > deleted. Where is that notice anyway? Maybe all these things I'm getting are > bogus? , when I originally set up the list I set it up not to accept attachments. Some lists accept attachments because their members think it is cute to send photos of their creations to the lists. I believe it is more important to keep our members virus free. Even though the list deletes the attachment you will often see the attachment symbol-the paper clip-on the email. If you scroll down the email you will see a message telling you that the attachment has been deleted and to contact your web master. I have received several emails recently to my House of Scents address that had been (I think) infected with a virus. I have my " anything " to House of Scents.com set up to automatically delete attachments before they get to the server. I can't think of any reason why anybody would need to send an attachment (that I would want to read) to House of Scents. Even with my ISP account that will accept attachments, I automatically delete those regardless of who they come from unless I am expecting them, and then I may still run it through the virus checker even though my virus program is always on and checking mail as it comes in. When I delete a file like the one we got today I always use the shift and delete keys to be on the safe side. This will delete the file completely from your computer if you are using a pc. It will not go into a deleted folder or recycle bin. It pays to be careful. Just because a email has CosmeticInfo in the subject line does not necessarily mean that it came from the list. We all know that a virus will take part of a saved message and send it out to everyone in the address book, it is quite possible that it could also use the subject line that would include the word CosmeticInfo. I wouldn't wish a virus on my worst enemy, so everyone, please be cautious. Pat. Peace, Joy, Serenity House of Scents tm. Guest guest
Thank you Pat. What you say makes good sense. I'll check at the bottom before I have a heart attack from now on..LOL. I am really cautious, but I must admit..I fell for that one.. > , when I originally set up the list I set it up not to accept > attachments. I am really cautious, but I must admit..I > fell for that one.. I just came from the archives and there is no trace of that email. I wanted to see how it was showing up in the archives because it is no place on my computer any more. Since you and I are the only two that have commented on this, I'm wondering if it did come through the list or not. If this was just sent out to individuals in an address book it is possible that it went to my House of Scents address and the attachment was removed there, and that you got the actual email with the virus. Guys we need to know if anybody else that gets individual emails from the group got a email today from Colorpro with an attachment? Pat. Peace, Joy, Serenity House of Scents tm. Guest guest
I got an attachement virus through Cosmeticinfo list today. It had an attachement and looked to be a normal email through this list- the difference was it didn't go into the right folder, and of course my anti-virus software caught it. Its everywhere. kathie <<<As I mentioned the other day, there is no need to worry about getting a virus through CosmeticInfo as attachments are not allowed on the list. >>>

This is my point Kathie. I assume that you have all the mail from the list go into a specific folder. If that email was from the list, then it too should have gone into that folder. The list is set up to cut out attachments. Try sending a email to the list with an attachment now and I bet the attachment does not get through. I didn't pay too much attention to the email when I received it and now I wish I had. I should have at least looked to see what email account it was addressed to. I think I may try sending an attachment, but you try as well. Pat. Peace, Joy, Serenity House of Scents tm. Guest guest
The bugbear-b virus can take subject lines and spoof email address from old emails on computers. It is also known to have disabled some virus software protection. A lot of people have received emails from Yahoo lists they don't even belong to. So that is why the email may look as though it is coming from this list or from someone you know. I would run an online scan just to be sure you haven't gotten the virus. Here are a couple of them : Symantec (Norton) Online Virus check: http://www.sarc.com/ then scroll down and click on " check for security risks " McAfee Online Virus check: http://www.mcafee.com/ on the right there's " McAfee FreeScan " , click the ScanNow button below that This virus is rampant among Yahoo Groups users. Mostly because people think they are opening an email from a group they belong too. Also, you don't have to open the attachment. Only the email. If you use Outlook Express or AOL and have previews of the email it can install without you knowing it. a www.purrfectcrafts.com

Guest guest
I got an email with the virus this morning, as a separate message. But it wasn't from Cosmecolor. Here's the header summary: Date: Fri Jun 13, 2003 11:39:27 US/Eastern Subject: Preserving Oil Based Formulas Attachments: There is 1 attachment Since I get CosmeticInfo as a digest, this single message looked suspicious and I tossed it. I have a Mac and these viruses don't affect me. Pat, your attachment came through in my digest, but it looked like a binary that got glorped up into a unintelligble text file. Guest guest
Got the attachment from Pat's email. I have also been getting several emails with attachments on them sent to my junkmail. If it has 98k on it I don't bother with it. And I too have been getting emails from lists I don't even belong to. I thought that was weird.
