The message body dealt > with a soap problem in making " soap kisses " . I think I received a couple this morning. One was from a crafter and I didn't pay too much attention to the name, the other looked like it was from some company. My Spam blaster caught them and removed the attachments before they got to my computer. I have some of my mail accounts set up not to accept attachments. Pat. Peace, Joy, Serenity House of Scents tm. Guest guest
Also, the Kleez virus is back. I had it this week and I didn't even open the attachments. It was only opened in the preview pain of outlook. So, make sure you have an antivirus that scans emails before they hit Outlook. a Purrfect Crafts Purrfect Craft's eBay Auctions a's eBay Auctions
Guest guest
I have heard that messages from soap lists and a candle list have been sent to yahoogroups people who are not members of *any* lists on such topics. I have also received this virus apparently from a member of the 'soapnuts' list, of which I am not a member. It may be a coincidence, but it does seem that the soap community has been hit by this virus. It is really worth everyone updating their antivirus info as advises. For that reason it is not a very good idea for a list to accept attachments. I know on some lists it is a big thing for members to send photographs of their latest creations to the list as an attachment. Even though my anti virus program updates automatically I still do not open attachments from anybody unless I am expecting it. CosmeticInfo does not accept attachments so members do not need to worry about getting a virus from the list. Now getting one from a list member is a different matter. If anybody's computer gets infected the virus will send itself out to everybody in the address book of the infected computer. So even though you get the virus from somebody you don't know, or remember knowing, that person has had your email address in their address book waiting for the virus to do it's thing. Outlook Express automatically saves addresses to people you reply to unless you program it differently. > It may be a coincidence, but it does seem that the soap community has > been hit by this virus. It is a better idea to get a anti virus program that automatically updates any time you log on to the Internet. Even then, don't trust attachments unless you are expecting them and it still doesn't hurt to run them through the checker. Pat. Peace, Joy, Serenity House of Scents tm. Guest guest
It should also be noted that BugBear (and many others) can spoof the " From " email header value.... meaning that it may appear to have come from someone who is not infected. If I was infected, it might pick an email address from my addy book, then propagate itself using that email address in the " from " line. i.e. Just because you receive an infected email from joeblow@..., doesn't mean that joeblow has an infected computer... in fact, it is highly likely that his is not, but that his email address was in the address book of an infected computer. It's useless, then, to track the sender of an infected email, to warn them, or to accuse them. Crafty little buggers, these creators and perpetrators of garbage, aren't they? If we could only channel that energy and effort. Groups are more vulnerable simply because there are many recipients in a group. hth, nan
Guest guest
Make sure you have anti virus protection. I got one of the Kleez viruses this week and I never even opened an attachment. I got it just by the email being opened in outlook express. After seeing the email, I remembered seeing it and deleting it. It is no longer a question of whether you open an attachment or not. a Purrfect Crafts Purrfect Craft's eBay Auctions a's eBay Auctions
