Guest guest
Hey guys, What's the general attitude towards meds, in ACT? I had what amounted to a nervous breakdown at the start of this year, after a year of very intense stress, and a large upsurge in my number of panic attacks (from once or twice a month to a couple times a day or more). Doctors described me as being in a " anxiety spiral " that would end with me in the hospital if I didn't take meds, and so I finally did. Now I find myself on an anti-depressant as well as a 3x daily routine dose of the benzo I once used only as a back-up to stop an acute attack. I'm not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, I'm willing to do whatever helps, but on the other hand, I'm still having major issues with agoraphobia (that started quite suddenly after the breakdown), and the side effects of the meds (not anxiety-related) are really bothering me. I'm working through the ACT book for Anxiety, the new one. It's WONDERFUL. I have 's book as well, and that's what got me into this. They're both great, but the anxiety one has been especially helpful in dealing with anxiety specifically. I wonder, is it possible to try tapering off meds, once I have a good grounding in ACT principles? Is that wise? Have other people done this? How did it go for you? Thanks, - Hollie
