Guest guest
Hello! I make products for myself & family only, and I have a question about presevatives: I have Germaben II, but I saw the following preservative blend for sale that doesn't use the olidinyl Urea- " Our Preservative Blend is made with glycerin derived Propylene Glycol, Methyparaben & Propylparaben. It is a broad spectrum preservative effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeast and mold and used in almost all forms of cosmetic formulations. It is similar to Germaben II except our blend does not have the formaldehyde releaser olidinyl Urea. " I would prefer to use this instead of what I have, but I'm clueless if it would be " OK " or not. How important is the D.U. in making an effective preservative? If it's not really necessary, then why is it so popular (it's in most of the formulations I've looked at online, at least)? Sorry if this is a beaten-to-death topic, there's not really anyone else I can ask. tia, V.
