I have just finished reading The Happiness Trap by Russ and

must say that I found it a really good complement to

book. Its style is a lot simpler but for me that was great -I can do

simple! It goes over all the main points of Get out of Your Mind but

it does have a slightly different slant. One thing I found

especieally useful is the word 'Expansion' instead of 'Acceptance'.

Acceptance can be a loaded word so for me to e x p a n d into

something is a lot easier.

I spent years and year trying to 'accept' my anxiety and just could

not. Age and wisdom have allowed me to accept in part but with my

new tools of ACT I hope to free myself one day from all my self

imposed limitations. So I just wanted to tell the forum that I think

this is a great book and really supports Get out of Your

Mind...sometimes the same thing written in a slightly different way

can make all the difference to our understanding.

I still find that I have a lot of resistance to facing anxiety but

at least now I am aware of it! What I find most difficult is knowing

and understanding the work but still avoiding and then feeling

crappy for doing so! I try to keep my eye on my values. There is

always something however small you can do each day to live by them

and make the day worthwhile. What a great adventure we are all on! I

was thinking of buying The Worry Trap but am not sure if I am

overdoing it! Or if it would add anything to what I already know. By

the way you can't can't The Happiness Trap in UK yet I had to order

it from Australia -a bit pricey.

Hi Everyone,

I just joined this list-serve out of curiosity, as Stan said there had

been mention of my book, The Happiness Trap. Well, I've been reading

through the emails on this site, and I wish I'd joined a lot earlier.

There are some fantastic discussions going on, and I love the

community feeling you have established here. (No surprise really;

wherever ACT goes, supportive communities naturally follow.)

Just one thing: as Stan posted below, The Happiness Trap is indeed

coming out in the USA in May 2008, published by Shambhala. However, I

was counting my chickens before they hatched when I mentioned the

'online store on my website, whereby people in the USA will be able to

get a copy relatively cheaply, delivered by express airmail'. Since I

mentioned that to Stan, I have looked into it, and the mailing costs

from Australia to the USA for small packages are absolutely

extortionate. It only becomes economical in quantities of 10 or more.

So,my apologies to anyone who visited my website and was disappointed!

Cheers, Russ

I asked my therapist to get a copy of this book for me while she was in Houston for the ACT Summer Institute.

I see her next week and am looking forward to reading it. I did go to the website to order it and yes shipping is

very high for one book.
