Guest guest
Thanks to everyone who has responded to my " frustrated " posting from Buffalo. I just can't beleive that so many doctors have different opinions with this. Cody's father and I have made up our minds and our going ahead with the casting on Saturday. We just both want to do whatever we can for our son. Of course this brings up more questions, since I am new to this whole process and to this board. I know Saturday is going to be horrible...any tips on the casting procedure??? Any tips on how to deal with BCBS Insurance??? from what I read - they don't seem to be too willing to pay for this. Should I plan on taking a couple sick days once he is fitted for his helmet until he gets used to it??? I am really going to lean on this board b/c there is no one really around here in Buffalo that has experience with this (that I know of anyway). Thanks so much! Guest guest
Hi Krissy! Wow, good luck Saturday! That happened fast. Your Dr is willing to write a prescription for the band then? That's great to hear. Most babies cry and get upset while being casted, but the casting is quick (avg of 10 mins) and painless. They get scared & angry while being held down for part of the process. Bring Cody's favorite toy, pacifier if takes one, bottle, sucker, whatever you could think to help calm him. Once they are done casting, they have a nice big sink w/bath products to get the plaster off him which often calms the baby some too. Usually within minutes after the casting is complete, baby bounces back to his happy self and has already forgotten about the process! You can add pictures to our "photos" section "our plagio kids", it walks you thru the process once you get in there. You can email em too to plagiocephaly if you'd like. Hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised & receive approval from your ins.. Some ins. requires pre-authorization, so it would be a wise idea for you to call tomorrow morning to ask. If not, they might decline you on the grounds you didn't get pre-authorized. Definitely call Fri am to ask. I wouldn't think you'd need to take days off after he gets banded. Honestly, 98% of babies adjust remarkably well and don't notice they're even wearing the band! My daughter didn't mind for one second. She slept fine in it too, we never had an ounce of trouble with her, and most parents say the same thing Good luck Saturday, please let us know how it goes. I've heard great reviews of the Straight Ahead Cranial Tech facility in Cleveland and about - the OT who works there. Krissy, That's a great idea, if you can swing it. That way you can check for red marks and then make a drive again if need be for any adjustments needed, you can get it all working within a few days and onto rounder shapes. Good luck, I know you won't regret your decision and keep asking all those questions we hope to answer for you! 'mom
