Guest guest
To Whomever, I just re-did the Retelling Your Own Story Exercise from the workbook. I wrote out my story as things are now and as I would write it before working with ACT. I wrote out a few facts; mostly behavioral facts i.e. things that I'm currently doing, that I consider to be problematic. Then I took the same facts and re-wrote the story; an entirely different story with a different ending; what I " realized, " is that almost all of the things that I do, that I consider to be problems, can have two words placed before each one of them i.e. USED TO! Overall, I noticed that my so called reasons, can or cannot be reasons at all AND they don't determine what can or cannnot be changed. It's my willingness and commitment to change, that determine such change. I can imagine it now. I choose to make a commitment to change a particular behavioral fact, and my mind throws a, " Yeah but this is the reason you used to do this/that! Don't you remember? " And I say, " Thank you mind for such an interesting reason, and I'm still going to do *this* instead of *that*! "
